5 Nov 24 Comment Great job with the texture and detail in this shot! I love trees but often find it tricky to capture them in such a compelling way-you're really showing me a new perspective here. The contrast between the vibrant leaves and the rugged bark is wonderful. Nov 12th
5 Nov 24 Comment This is such a dynamic and well-timed capture! I love the interaction between the two birds; it really tells a story, with one bird seemingly unbothered while the other comes in for a landing. The clarity and detail in the feathers and beaks are impressive, and the background provides a nice, soft contrast that keeps the focus on the subjects. One small suggestion would be to consider cropping a little on the left side to reduce the negative space and bring even more attention to the birds. Fantastic shot-congratulations! Nov 12th
5 Nov 24 Comment I love how you've captured the intricate textures of the tree bark, which adds a strong sense of depth and age to the image. The vibrant red leaves against the muted tones of the bark provide a beautiful contrast, giving the composition a lively touch that feels like a subtle nod to the changing seasons. I often find trees tricky to photograph in such a compelling way, so you're really showing me a new perspective here. Nov 12th
5 Nov 24 Comment Thanks for sharing the original image! Seeing it in color adds another dimension to the story; the bruises and blood give a realistic sense of battle and hardship, which might get softened in the black and white version. While black and white enhances the timeless feel and focuses on texture, the color version brings out the raw, visceral impact of the scene. Either choice is powerful, though each offers a slightly different emotional tone. Great work capturing a compelling narrative in both versions! Nov 12th
5 Nov 24 Comment Hi Mark, this is a great photo! The long exposure at 1/5 second does wonders for creating those smooth flow lines in the water, which contrasts beautifully with the dark, rugged rocks. I can see you leaned into the naturally dark tones of the rocks to push towards a black-and-white look, and it totally works - the bright and dark edits give it such depth and atmosphere. This would make a great photo to enlarge and showcase in your house. Nov 1st

64 Nov 24 Reply Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback and kind words about my work-I really appreciate it! I'll definitely take note of your suggestion about the drink being on the edge of the frame; little details like that can make such a big difference, and I always value your insight.

I completely agree about the term "snapshots" being thrown around-it really doesn't do justice to the artistry and thought behind street photography. Thank you for recognizing the effort I put into my work-it means a lot coming from you!

I'll miss being part of this group, but I'm excited about exploring new creative challenges in group 20 and beyond. I'll still be around in groups 5, 92, and 20, so please feel free to share your wonderful feedback with me there! You're always so supportive, and I truly value your and the other members perspective!

64 Nov 24 Comment Hi All,

I wanted to take a moment to share my heartfelt gratitude and bid you all farewell. My time with this group has been incredibly rewarding, and I've learned so much from the talent, feedback, and passion each of you brings to monochrome photography. The community here has truly inspired me to see the world through new perspectives, and I'm grateful for the connections I've made along the way.

As I continue my creative journey, I've decided to join the Creative and Street Photography groups. I'm excited to explore new styles, further develop my photography skills, and incorporate what I learn into my mixed media art projects. While I'll miss being part of this group, I look forward to applying everything I've gained here to my future endeavors.

Thank you all for the support, insight, and inspiration you've provided. I hope our paths will cross again in other creative spaces!

64 Nov 24 Comment This is a wonderfully heartwarming portrait! The joy and closeness of the trio really shine through, and the black background you created works perfectly to draw attention to their expressions. Your use of dodging and burning has added a lovely dimension to their faces, enhancing the contrast without losing the softness in the details. The monochrome conversion adds a timeless quality, and I think the slight gaussian blur subtly complements the mood of the shot. Great job capturing such a candid, joyful moment-this is a beautiful, memorable image! Nov 12th
64 Nov 24 Comment I really enjoy the perspective you've chosen in this shot of "The Big Bridge." The sweeping angle captures both the bridge and the rocky shoreline, adding depth and guiding the eye across the scene. The monochrome treatment works well here, bringing out the textures in the water and rocks, while also lending a timeless feel to the composition. If I could suggest one small tweak, it might be to adjust the contrast slightly to make the bridge stand out more against the sky, giving it a bit more prominence in the scene. Great work capturing the essence of this location! What do you think? Nov 12th
64 Nov 24 Comment This is such a captivating portrait of the eagle! I love how the monochrome treatment brings out the textures in the feathers and enhances the eagle's powerful expression. The tonal range from white to black is beautifully handled, giving the image depth and a moody atmosphere. The soft background does a great job of isolating the subject, making it stand out with a sense of majesty. I know you mentioned some concerns with the texture after denoising, but honestly, it doesn't take away from the impact of the shot.

92 Nov 24 Comment Hi Susan, I really enjoy the classic feel you've achieved by using black and white for this shot! The choice emphasizes the unity and focus of the bagpipers and brings out the texture in their uniforms and instruments. The composition is strong, though a little more space around the feet might add to the balance, as they're slightly cut off at the bottom. Overall, the tones and details capture the traditional vibe beautifully, making it a memorable image. Nov 12th
92 Nov 24 Reply If you get a chance I would love to get your feedback on my street photo submission in group 5. Nov 5th
92 Nov 24 Reply Hi Chuck, I went back and forth on the idea of turning the image B&W. Here is one of the B&W edits I tried. With this image I added more grain to give the image more of a "newspaper look" Nov 5th
92 Nov 24 Comment This shot beautifully captures a heartfelt moment between mother and son. The original warm autumn tones create a cozy, inviting atmosphere, while the black-and-white edit shifts the focus to their connection, highlighting the mother's concentration and the child's curiosity. Both versions tell a unique story-one rooted in seasonal warmth, the other in the purity of their bond. Nov 5th
92 Nov 24 Comment I just love how this photo bursts with energy-it really makes the whole scene come alive! The way the drummer and the dancer up front are connecting is so cool; you can practically feel the excitement and intensity between them just from their body language and expressions. The bright reds and greens in their outfits really pop against the softer background, so your eyes go straight to the action. And the crowd around them adds such a nice layer, making it feel like a big community moment, everyone sharing in the fun. Honestly, the timing and composition capture such a lively, celebratory vibe. Nov 5th
