Lovely capture! I love the burst of colors. My eyes tends to be drawn to the yellow yolk like center in the lower pedal. I agree with others that a slight crop would make it less busy. Perhaps a little less of the top flower, but enough to show its patterns and colors. Thank you for sharing John! Nicely done. |

Carol, excellent choice on the black background. It really makes the subject pop. I don't think I've ever shot anything at 10,000 ISO. I am impressed with the clarity. Way to stick with it given the wet and muddy conditions! I typically go for as much DOF as possible in an image. However, the shallow DOF in this image seems to work and creates a bit of soft mystery, leaving one to wonder. Nicely done! |

I don't usually think of feathers being a tangled mess. For that reason, I like this subject matter. Also, for that reason, I might sharpen the feather strands just a bit and bring up the blacks a bit to add more contrast. I love that we are all seeing different things for our macro work! It does inspire one to think more deeply. Thank you for sharing Stuart. |

Love the colors and textures on this! I'll be looking more closely at my potatoes before I peel them! I think you did all the right post production. Maybe just a slight exposure increase, somewhere between what you have and what Pat has provided. I tend to lean towards the darker side of an image. Nice work! |

Margaret, Stuart, Carol, thank you all so much for your comments. As Stuart mentioned, these are typically slow moving creatures so I certainly could have taken the time to check my settings more carefully. Carol, I like the cropping suggestion you offer. All good points that I will certainly keep in mind for the next ladybug encounter. |

Thank you Margaret. Good point. I often get that mixed up higher = smaller = more DOF. |

Gloria, what a beautiful creature you've captured. I love how crisp and clear the legs, antenna, and body are. From my eyes the wings seem almost too solid. I'm wondering if it's possible to soften the wings a bit. Maybe bring down the highlights, the black tones, and the sharpness? That might also make for a softer blend with the background. I tried to play around a bit with these adjustments in the attached image. The difference is very subtle. You've done such a great job on the sharpness of the body. The softer wings seems to give a place for the eyes to focus without competition from the wings. Of course this is my personal preference and you should go with what your desired result is. Either way, it's a great capture. |

Margaret, This image is absolutely stunning! What UV flashlight did you use? Did you have a colored filter on it? What adjustments did you make in post? Thank you for sharing more information. You are an inspiration!
