Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
52 Nov 24 Reply Sorry about the problem seeing the image. I agree, I could straighten him up. Thank you for the suggestion! Nov 17th
52 Nov 24 Comment I thought that it was a Great Blue. Yesterday we saw a first year Great Blue and it had a blue cast to its head and beak. I've seen young birds of prey with bluish beaks but not a heron (more melanin is deposited and the blue goes away in favor of real pigments as they age). Very fun to see it. Nov 17th
52 Nov 24 Comment To me, it looks like there are two kinds of turtles in your image. The one with the red strip is a red-eared slider and the other two are pond turtles. The red-ear are (in our area) considered invasive. Is the heron a Grey or Great Blue? This is a very interesting nature photograph and you have several story line possibilities. Your steadiness in a handheld is to be commended, everything is very sharp and the heron's eye is, for me, the focal point. I agree with others that recommend darkening the background. Nov 12th
52 Nov 24 Comment This is a lovely autumn scene. The winding road is a focal interest for me. You might consider a small touch of vignetting. I wonder what cropping in from the right, almost to the rock, would do. It removes the issue of the trees on the right (just a thought). The is a very pretty and relaxing image. Well done. Nov 12th
52 Nov 24 Comment I really enjoy the look in that turkey's eye, Judith and I are on the same page. Although I think that he is thinking "what a handsome guy I am'. I like the tight cropping and the fan of colored feathers is wonderful. You might consider increasing the saturation a touch, particularly on the waddle, and darken the black/brown feathers a bit. This is the perfect November image. Nov 12th
52 Nov 24 Comment Wonderful capture of the bird taking off AND with a seed in its beak AND it's all in focus! What others have said about cropping I agree with. I like the colors and exposure you applied. I wonder what the image would look like if the tree trunk had a softer/blurred focus? Either way, it is very nice. Nov 9th
52 Nov 24 Comment I enjoy the 'feel' of this image, it feels damp and shady. I like the musculature and ribcage details in the deer as well. For my taste, you have the exposure just right on the deer and the background. The only suggestion I have is to remove the thin black stem that runs just behind her ear and up the tree trunk. Nov 9th
52 Nov 24 Comment The bird is very well captured and I like the crop and flipped image. The fan of the primary feathers is lovely. You might consider removing the slightly muddy cast of the background. The original image has a brighter, cleaner appearance. Nov 9th
52 Nov 24 Reply I love sea otters, they are so cute (but they are not afraid to bite!). Nov 9th
52 Nov 24 Reply I tested the original photo and it popped up full size. I'm not sure what to do now. Nov 9th
52 Nov 24 Reply Hi, The focal length was 263mm and I was using a 100-400 zoom lens. The fog was fairly high. I did hand hold the camera. The waves were moving the otter up and down so a monopod would not have helped me. Thank you for your comments. Nov 9th
