62 Mar 26 Reply Mike - I personally like this version better: I find it more dynamic. Mar 16th
62 Mar 26 Reply it benefits from the revised cropping and I think it's cool :-) Mar 16th
62 Mar 26 Comment Hi Pete
A very nice picture - I love the silhouettes: and the tranquility the pictures transports.
As I know you like that we play around with pictures, I followed the classic Monthy Python motto "and now something completely different" :-) Similar to Mike I attempted to remove the cars. Furthermore I wanted to draw attention to the nice bridges in the background.
Not sure what you think?

A spectacular shot of an impressive piece of architecture - which reminded me - as Pete - of an insect.

62 Mar 26 Comment Hi Emil - I beleive to recall that you mentionned Cole earlier and I follow him since. Apart from the pictures you mention, I like also his series "ghosts in the concentration camp" and have tried to transfer the concept to street photographs (with limited success so far...).

I admire how you turned a profane dead end street in classic of timeless beauty: very well done!

A symphony of calmness - beautiful.

A great object well captured.

62 Mar 26 Comment Chris - a beautiful still life and a great Makro shot.

I appreciate the ideas of Emil and Mike, but would go with your first interpretation. I like how the light stamen gets the immediate attention, only to then notice the dark part at its end and then wander with the eyes up to the fragile flower.

Very well done!

62 Mar 26 Comment Hi Mike - a pretty cool picture. I am just reading Daniel de Visés Book about the Blues Brothers - one of my favourite movies and the guy is a lookalike of them.

One change I might consider would be to ensure that important lines go directly through the corners (I personally like this but have a friend who disagrees violently). Another consideration could be to align the cobblestones with the frame or the opposite (i.e. to increase the angle between considerably). This might give more graphical impact.

Very nice picture.

62 Mar 26 Reply Ah, now I got the question Apologies. The dimensions of the TIFF file are 1190 x 3222 pixels, which results in approx 3.8 MP (if I did the math correctly).

The reason why I wasnt closer was, that my plan was a different one. I wanted to frame the Guard passing by and ignoring the artworks and frame it with the legs of the statue . this months picture was a bycatch of the below

62 Mar 26 Reply Thanks Mike - added a comment to Emils comment why I prefer the darker version better.

The panoramas are in the 24x65 format inspired by the Hasselblad XPAN, which used 35 mm film but had the option of two formats (i.e 24x36 mm and 24x65 mm) See: https://www.hasselblad.com/fr-fr/about/history/xpan/ As I in the past only saw landscapes as panoramas I was fascinated by the pictures in their advertizing, which were street photography and some were vertical panoramas.

In 2026 I started to photograph in this format (I have a respective overlay on my EVP but the file remains uncropped) and realized it is very rewarding as it is not so easy. I then checked my archives for pictures that would fit as well and a collection on my website to demonstrate the particular advantages of this format https://adrianschaub.com/the-story-behind-the-solitude-snapshot-panoramas/

What I like most is the "visual air" / context the panorama provides around the subject. Due to its format one cannot capture it at a glance and the viewer must visually walk through it. Not sure if that was able to provide clarity around my motivations? Happy to enhance.

BTW the pictures are not only made with 50 or 100 MP Hasselblad but some are scans of 35 mm negatives and some are with an older Nikon (D65 I beleive). Hence I presume that one could do panoramas with any modern camera.

Thanks and best regards,

62 Mar 26 Reply Dear Emil

Many thanks for your kind words. The lightening up of the lady is probably better aligned with "the playbook". However personally I prefer the initial version. The reason being that the statue and the lady build a balanced pair of god and worshipper and should be seen together as one. The lightening of the lady makes her in my view too prominent and creates an imbalance. But I trust there is no right or wrong here.
