62 Jan 25 Reply thanks for the suggestion, I definitely like the increased room around the woman. However I am a bit unhappy about the way the round pot with plants is cut now (no longer in the middle). Thanks Jan 30th

62 Jan 25 Comment what a beautiful picture - an instant classic. Very well done. Congratulations! Perfect afterwork of a great shot. Jan 15th
62 Jan 25 Comment Hi Chris - very well spotted and implemented. Congratulations. It is a particular challenge to document the relation between two items in a way that the viewers get it. You did a great job to highlight the surprising combination of snow and mushrooms.
My alternative version would remove the out of focus area in the front, darken the foreground with a linear gradient and darkeining everything except snow and mushroom.

62 Jan 25 Comment Hi Mark - a very nice picture. One can look at it for a long time and sink in. Might be a nice series if you have more of them. Well done! Jan 14th
62 Jan 25 Comment Hi Emil, a very nice portrait: congratulations how you mastered the challenge.
I took your elimination of the background a step further and removed the window, which I found distracting. I then found the square format a better fit.

62 Jan 25 Comment Mandy, brilliant shot and brilliantly converted to BW. I echo the comments re the dark bakcground and I like the composition (bike vs wave). Very nice! Jan 14th
62 Jan 25 Comment Pete - an absolute gorgoues image. I firstly thought it is a desert with some grass :-)

When I need to think of something to improve, then I would change the cropping to reduce the area on the top left that has less wrinkles. See attached an idea of the croppping. Ignore the bw treatment, which was an online conversion. What do you think?

62 Jan 25 Reply Many thanks Mike - I like your composition a lot, which gives the person more air to breathe.
My soul is split when it comes to format: I have a lot of sympathy for the idea to fit the format individually to the topic of the picture as eg. Fan Ho did quite often. On the other hand it facilitates the organization of the hanging of an exhibition extremely if all pictures have the same size. Last but not least i fell in love with the square format when using the 6x6 Medium Cameras and I appreciate the challenge it poses to composition. Hence I do only square format nowadays, although it might not always be the best choice.
