Your lens was wide enough to combine a downward perspective on the foreground with a straight-on perspective of the storm. Together with the band of relatively featureless shore between the water and mid-ground rocks, this creates a feeling of separation between the powerful storm cloud and the peaceful foreground. I think that emphasizes the contrast Sue mentioned. I'm enjoying the mood of quiet drama that evokes.

Wonderful capture Sue! The detail and colors look spot on. Today I learned that juvenile osprey have an orange tint to their eyes, something I did not know until I peeped closely at this. Maybe crop in from the right? The adult's wing is beautiful, isn't it? |

I think that thatch lower right also plays a strong role in balancing the image, and adding emphasis to the use of diagonals in the composition. The tops of that thatch and the ladders creates a nice line that is perpendicular to the other diagonals and leads right to where the action is. |

Another wonderful portrait from the Doctor! The neutral expression and soft focus on the granddaughter make me curious about what she's thinking. Love the old man's hands! I am slightly distracted by the light thing behand his left hand. Because I can't figure out what it is, my mind gets stuck on it. |

I agree with Sue about the calm mood. My eye is drawn to the bottom of the image because that is where there are large clear structures (the rocks) to look at. I don't think the image would work so well without those rocks placed there. The path leads (and the brightness pulls) my attention up to the distance. On the way I encounter the curve of foliage, that creates an opening, like a portal, that separates where I am from where I am going. This evokes curiosity about the destination. A simple, but effective visual story. |

Love the concept and the execution, with the sharpest focus on the hands and mask. The background is beautifully blurred. Although that intense green is absolutely lovely, if this were mine I'd desaturate it to prevent it from upstaging your primary subject. This might work in B&W as well, though I'm pretty sure I'd prefer the color. |
