8 Jul 25 Reply Thank you Pinaki Sarkar. I appreciate your analytical assessment! I often forget to work through the 1, 2, 3's, and very much appreciate you doing what I forgot to do. 8-) Jul 27th
8 Jul 25 Reply Sue, I think you saw everything I missed. 8-) Jul 27th
8 Jul 25 Comment Nice! I wonder how it would look flipped horizontally, if you allow yourself such manipulations. Jul 25th
8 Jul 25 Comment I like the subtle colors. Complementary but gentle, they draw me in by making the scene feel more real than it would in B&W. Jul 25th
8 Jul 25 Comment I think the perspective correction is a good idea for something like this where slanted lines would distract from the symmetry. I enjoy the blue/gold palette, and also wonder if including more of the stonework on the right would be an improvement. Not being familiar with this area, I find the solid wood an interesting different sort of window. Jul 25th
8 Jul 25 Comment Congratulations to you for finding this spot. The way the foreground leads to a sharp change in perspective might be confusing to anybody who doesn't know SF, but confusing in the best possible way. Like Inception, if you catch the reference. This is wonderful! The only thing I'd try messing with if this were mine is the separation between the St. Peter/Paul Church and the sky. I'd be tempted to darken or lighten one or the other so they don't blend together. I think the B&W conversion is excellent. Great Great idea to get out there early! Jul 13th
8 Jul 25 Comment Well, once again you nailed the shot. F/8 worked great! Everything important is in focus, and everything else is nicely blurred. For me, the rain drops on his face and chest really draw me into the context. Two things distract me just a bit. One is the blur above the boy's left hand -- it doesn't seem to fit in with the surrounding background, creating a break in the texture and color that draws my attention. The other is the sharpness along the outside of his arms -- that creates a bit of a cut-out feel for me. But none of that really matters when you achieve such strong connection with your subject. We can tell the boy is happy to be in front of your lens! Jul 13th
8 Jul 25 Comment What a fun shot! It makes me smile. Great idea to shoot through her hair, and I think having her face so well lit, and her head tilting back into the wind, are both important to how well this works. I encourage you to play around with the crop, maybe find something that doesn't put her smack dab in the middle. I'd crop in from the top and right, maybe even so far as to crop into her hair. Since this was a photoshoot, you likely did not have any control over her outfit or the background. I think this would have worked better with less light on the background, and an outfit that didn't introduce another color. These are nits though. I really like it! Jul 13th
