I am surprised no one has commented on the lack of a border! I saw it immediately on p[ening on the thumbnail. The black blob merges completely with the black background. If I should decide to enlarge it fr competition asseems likely based on your generall complimentary comments. I'll crop the blob and add white or blue or grayish border! |

I too have tried to photograph the "cannon ball" flower at Foster Gardens, a favorite spot of mine. As I recall most blooms were high up, requiring a telephoto lens. The distance challenge is accentuated in order to avoid the 4" cannon ball that might fall on a passing head, doing serious damage--so staff had closed off the area when I have visited. I believe your whole image is a bit soft, but considering the challenges... I would darken what I think are buds above the flower to reduce their competition. A second open flower behind the main one has a blown out petal--I would try to darken that by cloning in from the color that is there and also darkening the whole. I like the round crop of the whole. |

Both views are stunning. On looking at the thumbnail I thought the first some kind of distorted building! But on looking at your "page" I realized was not lava flow but ice and reflection. I agree that if there are fingers remaining in the original, they should be included. If not, then enlarging the canvas, extending the red "fingers" and adding water would improve an already spectacular image |

I think you achieved your goal of changing a blah photo into a striking one. I like it except for one aspect: I agree with Fran on the vignette--it is way too dark. obscuring the details in the pillars. I really like the bright lights near the top. I would not change anything but back off the vignette. I saw the Acroplis in 1978 and longed for a telephoto lens to record the details on the Partenon--My camera then was a Yashica twin kens reflex yielding square photos. |

Thanks! I had not thought about blown out window. However I think I am inclined to do less drastic a crop of the black blob--maybe to where intersects with top edge. Will try after lunch. |
