The cropped image is superior, since it eliminates a lot of the dark area, which is distracting and doesn't contain useful information. Yes, you lost some of the birds, but the cropped image enhances the remaining two still more. Even in the cropped image, there is a large dark area on one hippo. Time of the day was surely an issue with the photo. What I keep wondering is how the birds stand so untroubled on the back of such enormous and aggressive animals! Well, this is a perfect example of symbiosis. Back to the photo: the position of the two hippos is good, so nothing to improve here. Also, I don't mind the piece of the third hippo, because it doesn't compete with the main subjects. |

You made something interesting out of a below average subject. This, you achieved through the angle of view and the vibrant colors. You also managed to bring a lot of texture into the picture. Good composition, although I immediately noticed what you mentioned: the chopped top. My other comment: darken the highlights on the face, perhaps cloning some adjacent elements. |

Nice! What I like most is that this is a found picture, and not something that you set. The contrast of colors and forms between the leaves is wonderful. Looking carefully, one sees the flow of water at the edges of the brown leaf. I wouldn't change anything in the photo, although if I really wanted to be picky I would clone the stem on the bottom right to eliminate any distraction. |

The shutter speed was perfect, since it gave the water a silky texture, but still with enough detail on it. It's interesting how the picture flows from the top right to the left on the center, and then back to the right at the bottom. I would increase the exposure a little on the bottom half, so the viewer gets a little more of the white stream. Popping up the colors will also help. |

A very interesting composition with a lot of geometric forms. The good thing is that they complement each other and do not compete, since they are in different areas of the image. I have only one recommendation: straighten the vertical beams, in particular the one closer to the right border. |

The final image is a great improvement compared to the original. However, I think that you went a little too far with the HDR treatment, including the colors, and the picture seems to be over-saturated. To me, it looks more like an etching, rather than a photo. But that's perhaps what you wanted to achieve. I don't find the image too busy, since it shows what one expects to see in a city. But I agree with you that it lacks an anchor point. It could be the towers of the church, but for that you would need to lighten them a little more. |
