If you hadn't told us, I wouldn't have suspected that the sky was brought from another photo. It blends very well in the image. Good composition and good colors, with the feeling of being in the center of the action. I think that you can crop some of the sky (a little above the peak on the right) to focus more on the main subject. Also, for some reason the pole sticking out of the lake (at the center, one third from the bottom) bothers me. |

Excellent composition, with the curved line climbing from the bottom left to the top center. What I like most about the composition is that you included a thin sliver of ground with some trees, which helps anchor the picture and gives us a sense of the dune's size. You told us about the wind, and actually it is possible to see some sand flying on the top of the dune. In terms of improvements, I would recommend getting rid of the white spots on the dark side of the dune (the footprints on the other side don't bother me). Also, I would increase contrast and give the dune a little more reddish and the sky more bluish tones. |

As with Albert's picture, I prefer the colored version; mainly because I find the B&W oversharpened. I have to admit that the B&W looks like an engraving, which is a plus, but still too much for my taste. I don't mind the positioning of the main cog, since it is not centered and is well complemented by all the other geometrical forms. However, the composition is a little too busy, but perhaps that's what you intended. |

I agree with you: I prefer the color version, specially because the white points ("stars") are not so overwhelming, which to me distract more than contribute to the picture. I also like the blue tone of the original more than the B&W.
For the rest, it is a perfect composition, with the curve formed by the ice moving from bottom right to top left. I wouldn't change anything.
