Thanks for your input, everyone. I have added back in part of the left side of the original photo to include the guy in the back. It's good to know how other competitions set their rules in case I participate in the future. Is this revised photo better? |

Hi Don, you have the complete propeller! That's good! I recommend cropping to the left of the propeller so it's not cut off right at the tip, and to the right of the wing edge so that's also not cut off right at the tip. I like your phrase, "beamed him out"! Hahaha! I only know competition rules for my camera club, and all of your edits would be acceptable to them. But from what I'm hearing from our DD40 group, it sounds like my camera club is pretty lenient. |

Hi Catherine, great job at capturing this image from a moving boat! Wow! Well done! The lines are straight, buoys are nice and colorful. I recommend cropping up just a tiny, tiny fraction of a mm so that it doesn't look like the bottom is cut off and to hide the small patch of background at the top right. |

Hi Ling Ling, this is so beautiful! And I LOVE Japan!!! You're so lucky you were able to see Mt. Fuji clearly. You might try bringing more attention to the red torii gate by lightening the trees behind it and by cropping a little from the bottom left corner (left side and bottom of the image). It would've been really interesting to see this with smoother water, like you said, but you would've had to have a slower timing which might have required a darkening filter so the sky wouldn't be blown out. Or maybe just lower ISO. Or you could blur the water in Lightroom! Hahaha! I also wanted to mention I think your photos have been getting better and better over the past year or so!!! Well done! |

Hi Don, glad you were able to see your favorite plane in person! I like the reflections on the shiny silver side and the bystanders which shows size comparison. Unfortunately the tip of the wing on the left side of the image was cut off, so this may not do well in competition. However, if you cropped more on the left to make it look intentional rather than an accident, it would do better in competition. I think you'd have to crop to between the 2 propellers so that nothing appears cut off. Or crop to just left of the silver part of the far left propeller so that the propeller blade isn't cut off near the tip. |

Hi Henry, I really like what you did with this! The colors and crop are just perfect. The only change I would make is to the dark green leaf hanging down. Its coloring is different than the rest, and it doesn't have much shading like all of the other parts of the image. Can you lighten it or add some shading to the one leaf? Otherwise I wouldn't change anything! |

Hi Julie, this is an image I'm going to remember for a very long time. It's so sad, knowing the story behind it. I like how you've cropped out the foreground. If it's printed in a newspaper or somewhere, they might need to crop part of the left side, which would be okay - the message would still come across. Very well done and very powerful image. |

Hi Andrew, good capture! Good eye! I like how Don increased contrast in the shadows and colors, etc. You may want to straighten the horizontals, too, just a tiny bit - especially the sidewalk-wall edge and the window. There are a few scratches in the paint where it's white, especially one in the bottom right, which could be removed. |
