When I tried matching the lipstick to the car color I thought it made her lips look as if she had botox or a filler - I'm not skilled enough in PS to make it look real - thanks for your comments, good point |

Judith, what a perfect composition...this is just beautiful. It's so nice I think you need to show it off more - in my VF I cropped it to emphasize the subject, added some more contrast to make it pop a bit and used a slight vignette - terrific job. |

Barbara, such a gorgeous shot - and glad for your explanation. Obviously I saw the image before I read your description and what struck me were 1 - the shot is just SPECTACULAR and 2 - I noticed the blurred fence which was perplexing until you explained it. I did a down and dirty "repair" in PS but this image is certainly worth the time to re-work in Photoshop |

Abstract photographs don't follow the normal "rules" of photograph but must still have:
1. Impact and strong visual interest
2. Simplicity and cohesion
3. Structural or color design
4. Use of light to create mystery or wonder
I think this meets those criteria pretty well

Don't know if I was going for 'dark and evil' but I was certainly going for sexy - and great catch on her elbow, I never noticed, good eye. I left the spot near the eye, but I think you're right - anyway, I'll probably never use the shot again but your input was excellent - thanks a million |

Tom - I love the image and the composition - that said, in my VF I thought it needed some punching up (I also straightened the pillars, they were not perpendicular - thought the tree branches (great call) needed more detail and to be lightened and that the building needed a bit more color - LMK what you think |

Hoshedar,Cappadocia is famous for its unique and otherworldly landscape and I thought the image would show best if the focus was on the "otherworldly" landscape and felt the sky, while beautiful took the viewer's eye away from the landscape, especially the pale blue patch of sky near the center of the image. I changed to a pano crop, again, to show off the landscape and added texture, clarity, contrast and a bit of "skylight filter" from the Nik Suite and finished it with a vignette focusing on the rock formations - would love to know your thoughts on my edits |

Thanks Cindy - strokes are always a point of contention when presenting nature images. In PSA competitions for example, strokes, like vignettes are not allowed because a nature image is supposed to look 'natural' and strokes and vignettes are not in nature - what I've learned in photo club competitions is that whenever I've used a stroke, a judge has dinged it for using a stroke and whenever I haven't used a stroke in similar compositions, the judge has suggested a stroke - and this has happened to me at least 4 times that I can recall. I'm glad you raised this issue as its worthy of discussion :-) |

That's always an issue with me - PSA or not PSA - I thought Nature + was pretty much anything goes except of course adding stuff with AI - I think you can see I have a "photo club" mentality" - nonetheless, this is a wall-hanger, nice job

This is a great "family portrait" and well done technically. Compositionally, I darkened the upper part of the image as I thought three different layers of background distracted from this excellent image - also, I cropped down so the area above mom's head in the upper part of the image and the area below her head in the reflection were equidistant |

A++ on the nature story and you really captured the "business end" of the bird well - I felt the tail feathers are a bit soft and two branches lead the viewer out of the frame - it's such a terrfic shot you might want to revisit in post |

Agree with Larry's assessment re: visual balance, but to me a bigger issue is I don't quite see how the image connects with the viewer a bit better, perhaps if one or both had their heads turned more towards the camera it would present better - having said that, great work technically, the subject are sharp with good detail and nice job in post |

Larry - this image is special - in my VF I tried to even out the background to eliminate any eye grabbing bright spots, but regardless, this is just special - congratulations, never really seen one like this before |

Thanks Dave - I've been to the Grand Canyon several times to shoot lightning and while both rims have their appeal, I prefer the North Rim for several reasons - R U going with a group, with a workshop or just on your own? I assume you have reservations at the North Rim. My experience is the North Rim is FAR less crowded; it's also cooler, but then you probably know that. Not to be a know it all, but if you have questions I'd be glad to share any information I have. |

Impact, Visual Interest, a composition that brings the viewer into and thru the frame, a clear center of interest, great detail throughout and spectacular light. A solid ten in anyone's book. In my VF I brightened the subject a touch, but that does not diminish the strength of this very compelling image |

Dave - I'm not a fan of panos but I'd put this one on my wall - I'm not going to be redundant and describe what everyone can see for themselves, but this is simply a terrific shot, kudos, kudos! |

Gary - this is really an interesting image, and great work with the long exposure, a perfect idea for the falls, but the position of the falls vis-a-vis the "flow" of the stream is a bit disconcerting, i.e., where is my eye supposed to go, as is the falls take the eye to the left, but the water wants me to go to the right - I've offered an option in my VF - please LMK your thoughts |

Once again it's difficult to argue with our two bird experts, however, I always prefer when the subject is within 90 degrees of the camera and in this image, the subject if facing slightly away, perhaps 100 degree or so, from the camera - that said, technically boffo! And from your car that's a special image, nice job |

Cannot disagree with the two pros above, however, I do find the verticals leading the viewer out of the frame distracting inasmuch as they lead the viewer's eye out of the frame

Julia, this subject is gorgeous, great capture - a quick question, I notice the band on its leg, was it captive or controlled or just marked for conservational purposes? In my VF, I thought I'd offer a portrait crop as an option, not better by an option, I also added a vignette, I really wanted to focus on this beautiful subject |
