Barbara, it's a very nice, simple image, however, I thought it was a bit busy and that the hummingbird needed to have the dark area around its throat opened up a bit to get some detail.
I sharpened, flipped and removed much of what I felt was unnecessary busyness. |

Tomi - this is a very nice minimalist image and I think it's the cub's shadow that gives this image its impact, and I like it as is. However, you asked...
See my VF, I wanted to go lower left to upper right so I flipped the image in addition to cropping in a bit - would like your thoughs |

Thanks Barbara - yes, it's light-painted. I've hiked it five times and five times I've waited for a group of at least three to leave and I follow them down. Yes, it can be dangerous at night especially when you're within a few hundred yards of the arch. And thank you for your kind words. |

This is really creative Judith, and I understand about working with glass and reflections, but it is fun. Your composition is really Interesting with a capital "I" - and that's the strength of the image IMO - in my VF I tried to accentuate the detail in the image, especially the 3-dimensional faded frame - nice job with this, not all still life images are interesting, this one is. Note, the website is not accepting my VF - I'll try to post it again later - I've had this issue before and sometimes I have to shut down my computer to get this site to accept my images |

Very creative and very clever Tom - I would not change a thing - you checked the three most important boxes in photography - the image has immediate impact, it's visually interesting and it tells a story - not too shabby for one click of the shutter :-) |

Terrific shot Hoshedar - I did a little clean up along the lower edge of the image, on the lower left corner and a few aberrations here and there. I also removed the border, which may seem like a lot - but this is a terrific shot that would score well in a club competition with or without my modifications, I just wanted the viewer to focus ONLY on the building - nice job. |

The first thing that struck me was that the image is extremely sharp, capturing intricate textures in the ridges and rock formations, but then I thought, is this over-processed. Vis-à-vis the image's resolution I just can't tell, so I'll go with sharp ?
Another positive is I found no visible noise or unwanted blur, even in finer details, and I thought you did a great job with your crop. All in all, a nice image

Bud, placing the bird slightly off-center created a balanced and aesthetically pleasing composition - so nice job. You also did a nice job blurring the background and isolating the subject while keeping detail in the subject.
The lighting is a bit soft and diffused, but a bit more directional light could add contrast and highlight the texture of the feathers better. Also, the lower part of the branch being cut off slightly could be reconsidered for a more complete composition. All in all, it's a nice shot but not with much visual interest. |

Actually your idea is a better alternative; it's simply more pleasing your way. I do very little in PS so I have no idea how you did that, but am going to find out - thanks a million, great idea. |

Once again I learned something from you - I was so focused on getting down low it never occurred to me to take a higher perspective to eliminate the sky and accentuate the rippled sand. I guess I just don't like shooting down on subjects that are at ground level, but I will the next time :-) Thank you for your comments Larry |

I've always felt the most interesting wildlife images are those that show interaction between species - Check! As a result, the image is interesting to look at with or without the back story - Check! And I don't think you could ask for a better composition to tell the story - Check! |

Cindy, this is a lovely shot and an outstanding composition. Having said that, I'm not clear about the title and how it lends context to the image. Nonetheless, it's a gorgeous image and you played the light beautifully. In my VF I tried to bring out the detail in the egret's feathers, opened the shadows and brightened its head, bill & eye area. |

First of all I want to comment on your chosen subject - This is a great wildlife photograph, capturing both the beauty and power of the hawk, but in a unique setting. The combination of nature, the road sign and SNOW creates a compelling contrast. My issue is with the postprocessing - see my VF. Can you explain what those are? |

Michael - vis-a-vis the original I think you did a great job - in my VF I enlarged in Topaz AI, opened the shadows, darkened a part of the branch and re-cropped. |

Gary - the Grand Canyon, even as glorious and spectacular as it is, it is NOT an easy place to create a strong composition, but you did a really nice job with this image - The Grand Canyon is so vast, that photos more often than not, fail to capture its grandeur. Additionally, the lack of a clear foreground element can make GC images appear flat. The best GC images I've ever seen contain clarity, detail a good DOF, and atmospherics such as lightning, storm clouds and rainbows and when you're lucky all of the above - nonetheless, this is a really nice shot.

Excellent panorama Ian, but what do you want my eye to look at? Also, due to the background it's difficult to find the horizon line, but the image does appear canted to the left a touch. In my VF I eliminated much of the bright sky to bring the viewer's attention to the Hassan Walls and straightened the horizon line a touch |

Ahmed, you didn't say whether or not your did this intentionally but it's certainly interesting. In my VF I removed the partial ring on the lower left and replaced the sky - the other thing you might consider is renaming the image, something like, "Spiti Valley Through a Peephole" :-) Just a thought... |

Dave, a gorgeous shot, I love the simplicity and how you isolated your subject. BTW - I too tend to shoot with higher Tv when hand holding, it just makes sense.
I think this image is good to go as is however, I did darkened the background and brighten the subject in my VF - but the site won't let me upload - I'll try again later, but I thought a touch more contrast between your subject and the fore and backgrounds would help the image pop. |

Peter, your concept and color are spectacular. The issue I have is that leafless or dead branches going every which way, don't add much to a photo - in my VF I tried to remove as much of the dead/leafless stuff as I could, then cropped in and moved the woman a bit further from the center - what a gorgeous shot - just terrific! |

A well composed and executed landscape shot with great color, depth, and balance. The photo has a strong composition with the layers leading the eye toward the striking cliff formation. The reflection in the water adds depth and the foreground grass gives a natural frame, creating perspective
The scenery is stunning, but I would crop down and eliminate the clouds that although beautiful I don't feel they add to the story

Julia, such a lovely shot of an osprey in flight, that I really wanted it to pop more. So, in my VF, I enlarged and sharpened in Topaz AI as I thought the image a tad soft. Then I ran it thru the Nik Suite Color Efex Pro and added contrast, which added texture the subject's wings and brought out some variations in the sky and finally cropped in to a 5x7 format. I hope you like my modifications. |

Excellent shot Doc - I'm always torn a bit when I see blurred wings in bird photography - on one hand it adds energy to certain images but sometimes, the blur is just distracting.
In my VF, I brightened the subject's face and cropped in tighter - I also added contrast to bring out some detail in the spider web, which I feel add immensely to the image.
Nice job |

Terrific action shot and love how the viewer can see the subject's eye between feathers. In my VF I removed the bright spot in the lower left and removed the foliage in the lower right in PS, then I opened the shadows as much as I could on all the black feathers. Great shot. |

Kathleen - Kudos on this truly excellent shot; it's simple, yet it's also complex, which makes it interesting. Your crop is ideal for this subject(s), and reflections always make for interesting images. The one 'improvement' if possible, would be to go back and try to get a similar shot with some of the subjects facing towards the camera. As it is, only two of the birds are facing within 90* of the camera and none are looking into your lens. I realize wildlife doesn't pose, but this is the type of scene where you can take a lot of images and then review them on your screen at home. I feel with just a couple of birds looking into the lens the image would pop a lot more - still you captured a lovely scene. |
