7 Oct 24 Reply Do you belong to Canon Professional Services? $100/ year, two free cleanings per year, two day turnaround and a rep answers the phone within three rings usually - anytime I have a question I just call Canon - I've found it invaluable Oct 27th
7 Oct 24 Comment Hoshedar - Your title is "Floating Contest" which implies two contestants, and you did very well in capturing that. At the same time, Impact and Visual Interest are the fundamental characteristics that most often succeed in competitions; thus, these two aspects of an image need to be the hook that grabs and keeps the viewer's attention and outweigh any minor technical deficiencies.

Your close up does have impact and is visually interesting, however, I feel when cropped to a single bee it has far more impact than including two. If your goal was to have the viewer look at two bees you were successful, but I feel in a competition the image cropped in with one bee would score higher.

7 Oct 24 Reply Tom - I use a fast Tv whenever I shoot birds - seldom less than 1/3200th second- better safe than sorry Oct 10th
7 Oct 24 Comment Thanks for your comment

7 Oct 24 Comment Your subject is the museum but the brightest part of the image is the bright yellow sign with the 4 - what did you want the viewer to look at? You have some great light on the wheels, which draw the eye but my eye always settles back on the large bright panel with the 4 Oct 9th
7 Oct 24 Comment I've been to Dead Horse Point several times - I applaud your efforts but digitizing 20-year-old slide film is a rough go. I think it's impossible to match colors in these cases, but good luck Oct 9th
7 Oct 24 Comment Tom - you have a lot of interesting stuff going on here - I cropped in, sharpened added contrast, Texture, Clarity, brightened both the rock and the reflection to get detail Oct 9th
7 Oct 24 Comment Hoshedar - see my VF - I think the lower bee, which is softer than the upper bee distracts from the tack sharp upper bee - just a fantastic shot Oct 9th
7 Oct 24 Comment Judith - the middle clematis seedhead seems a bit close to the top of the frame but that's really minor - this is simply a terrific image - impact, visual interest, flow, cohesive and technically spot on with great color and I love your format - a "10" on anyone's scale I would think. 73 Oct 24 Reply Thank you Peter, your comments are appreciated Oct 29th
73 Oct 24 Comment Good eye - yes, I increased the exposure slightly

73 Oct 24 Comment Dave - you did a great job of stitching and it's a lovely panorama. The interest in the image is the sky and the outcropping and rocks on the right so that's what I tried to focus on in my VF - I also added tonal contrast and a bit of skylight filter the Nik Suite and cropped in a bit. Oct 12th
73 Oct 24 Comment A lovely image of the Palouse - I'd love to capture a shot like this. It's such a great scene and you have all the ingredients so I tried to single out the barn and draw more attention to the subject. As shot, I feel the bright sky that comprises about 2/3 of the image fights with the barn for attention. I cropped in to eliminate much of the sky because I didn't think it added to the scene, then in from the right to place the subject on a powerpoint. I increased contrast, texture and changed the temperature of the sky towards the blue and added vibrance throughout - I'd love your thoughts on my modifications Oct 11th
73 Oct 24 Comment Thank you Ian Oct 11th
73 Oct 24 Comment Thanks Sherry - I just read up on Google Oct 9th
73 Oct 24 Comment Sherry - I don't have a formula for anything, I really don't, I just go by the seat of my pants most of the time - but if I recall, I took your image into Color Efex Pro and used tonal contrast and the skylight filter Oct 9th
73 Oct 24 Comment Just a beautiful and classic sunset image - just beautiful as is. That said, in my VF I wanted to emphasize the beauty even more so lightened the foreground slightly, cropped down to a pano to keep the most interesting pretty part of the sky, increased the exposure on the boat, punched up the sky (and reflection in the water) and added a slight vignette to draw the viewer into what I feel is the most interesting part of the image - the sky/boat/sky-tinted water reflection. Oct 9th
73 Oct 24 Comment A lovely image of Manly Beach and I thought you did a really nice job integrating the C curve of the beach with descending height of the trees - an outstanding leading line and a great story. Oct 9th
73 Oct 24 Comment S curves always add interest to an image and you did an excellent job of composing this scene. In my VF I added contrast, texture, clarity, reduced highlights, opened some shadows and added an vignette Oct 9th

97 Oct 24 Comment Thanks Ernoe - I thought this particular image worked better in bxw - coming from you, it's much appreciated Oct 26th
97 Oct 24 Comment Nice headshot of the raptor - I thought it might be a touch soft, however, that could also be a result of the rez limitations - in my VF I darkened the background a touch Oct 17th
97 Oct 24 Comment Excellent capture of a beautiful subject. In my VF I added canvas, darkened the branch or log the subject is sitting on and reduced the highlights Oct 17th
97 Oct 24 Comment Roy - a terrific image, great separation and sharp eyes, couldn't ask for more. And a very nice job capturing detail in both the dark and light feathers Oct 17th
97 Oct 24 Comment What a terrific shot - the only issue I have is that I didn't take it. Thanks for sharing this, it's special Oct 17th
97 Oct 24 Comment Ooops, didn't mean to send, I'm hoping for your sake they re-think the fencing. Oct 13th
97 Oct 24 Comment Not wide enough :-) Oct 13th
97 Oct 24 Comment Peter - thank you, will look at that. BTW - it is truly intimidating looking at your images, they are truly exceptional
