Michael - thanks for inviting me to view/comment on your images. This one has impact and great visual interest - I feel the strength of the image is in how you accenutated your subject with curved leading lines and great clouds - terrific shot - questions
When you shot HDR did you shoot metered (+1) (-1) or something else and what was your focal point?
Simply an excellent image |

Thank you Michael and welcome aboard - the competition I'm considering is called "The Shape of Things" ~ and the group reinforced my own feelings about the image - look forward to seeing your submissions.

Rick - you raise and interesting point - I've been in a sand storm not just blowing sand and it can destroy a camera lens - the wind was swirling and whenever I felt a guest I would cover my camera and lens.
Thank you for your kind words

My apologies - I was on the road with my lap top that gives me fits and submitted the incorrect VF on this image - in any event, this is a lovely image and what I expect a high key image to be - soft, smooth, flowing - in my VF I took the white slider in LR's Basic panel and moved it to the left until the blown out areas fell within the histogram, which gave it a touch more of a pastel feel then cropped - would love your thoughts on my modifications. |

No, I intended to share an image of the pier but cropped - my skills in operating this site leave something to be desired, my apologies |

This scene has incredible potential. But I agree with you, the chosen settings were not ideal for such a great scene. The subject is Lake Te Anau Sunset but the lake is featureless - the background is stunning but the eye wanders - in my VF I tightened the show and toned down the bright sky between the clouds and also used the Temp Slider on that portion of sky to blue it up a bit - terrific concept and thank you for posting |

I've always marveled at photographers who can create interesting high key images - it's not my think mostly because I've never been successful at it - in my VF I re-cropped to focus the viewer's eye - I feel as presented, the eye tends to wander - very creative |

Lens ball images are always fascinating - and eye-grabbing. If this were entered into a club competition I don't know how it would score, but to me these images are just fun and a part of the joy of photography - I have one too but have never really used it, but now you've given me an idea - thank you |

Zina - excellent job bringing out the highlights and if that was your goal - mission accomplished.
If submitted to a photo club competition I'd say all the interest is on the left hand side of the image with a lot going on on the right side that gets lost. The subject is interesting and you have spectacular light it just needs a bit more cohesiveness - still a really nice shot |

This is really a high impact image that I thought the maker did a nice job technically making it pop - that said, it has the 'crunchy' highly processed look especially visible in monochrome, which by the way I thought was an excellent choice. Since I do a bit of judging for photo clubs I find the "crunchy" look more prevalent on east coast clubs, although it's an unscientific comments as my exposure is limited but every time I judge an Eastern club, that's what I find. In my visual feedback I removed many of the distracting elements and then added a slight vignette to focus the eye - but a boffo image - next time I would love to see more detail on your processing. |

Normally I'll write my reviews in WORD then copy/paste onto the site but upon re-reading I see I must have clipped part of my comments so I'll recap again. Other than the white cloud this is a dynamite image - the winding road is such a subtle and powerful feature in this image it can't but help to bring the viewer into and thru the image and whenever a maker can do that, at least IMO, he or she creates a winner - this scores well in any photo club with or without the cloud - nice job! |

I think this is a terrific image and composition save for the white cloud in the upper center that draws the eye. Also, the very dark clouds also draw the eye so I tried to minimize both by cropping down to eliminate most of the dark cloud and then used the Patch Tool in PS to change the bright white cloud to grey - I also added a bit of contrast and texture and vibrance to try to get the image to pop a bit more by brining more detail into the road. |

Terrific shot Peter and beautifully composed. In my VF you'll see that I lightened the two dominant cypress trees to bring out the detail and cropped down a touch making it a slight pano to eliminate the bright sky at the top of the frame. Once again, I'm submitting my VF to Sherry as the cite will not upload this image. |

Another outstanding image - excellent composition with a nice feeling of depth. While the sky is fantastic I cropped down a touch and converted to more of a pano thus accentuating the road at the bottom of the frame, which btw, I lightened by opening the shadows. I also added a vignette in lighten - darken center in Tonal Contrast in Color Efex and then added a bit more vignette on the upper right using the Linear Gradient mask in LR - another winning image in my opinion - I have sent my Visual Feedback to Sherry because this site won't accept it after four tries - btw, I'd be curious if anyone else has had this problem - it occurred with my other DD Study Group so I hope Sherry can advise those who handle such things - And Sherry, thanks in advance for doing this. |

This is a beautifully composed high impact and visually interesting image. Crepuscular rays, a winding road and a vehicle moving directly toward the camera, wow - you couldn't ask for a more interesting scene. I thought the composition was so good that it deserved more natural colors (one man's opinion) so I neutralized the whites. I also thought image might pop a bit more if the vehicle were brightened a touch and if the "god rays" had a bit more emphasis so I lightened the truck and added contrast to the crepuscular rays - so while not better, those are options. Also, I opened the shadows a touch and felt the image was canted ever so slightly to the right so I straightened it just a touch. Since I'm a photo club guy, I will tell you this image scores well in any photo club competition and is one to be proud of. |

When I read 1/15th second I was blown away - wow, I would not have attempted it,nice job. This image is superbly composed and therein in my opinion lies its strength. The entire image is a tad soft so I tried to minimize it by adding, contrast, texture and clarity to the flowing water to separate it from the background. A common problem with "flowing stream" images is that in many cases they lead the viewer's eye off the page - in this case, you handled that beautifully in how you composed the image with pooling water instead of flowing water at the bottom of the frame. Also, the water was ever so slightly blown out so with the added contrast and clarity it darkened the pooling water at the bottom of the frame - then I added a touch of vibrance to the entire image. See my VF - and btw, thanks for having me in this group, you should all know I chose this group based on the images I previewed - what a dynamite group. |

Michael - a terrific opportunity shot - your image again has a good degree of impact, a lot of visual interest and best of all it tells a fun story due to its obvious uniqueness, i.e., you just don't see shots like this every day. On the downside, the image has a ton of distractions which really draws the viewer's eye - see my VF and LMK your thoughts.
