12 Feb 24 Reply Thanks Ally. We don't get all that much snow here, so it does draw out the photographers when we do! Feb 18th
12 Feb 24 Reply I have no idea why your image is more blue - I played with the tones in this quite a bit, and landed on the black and white as I wanted to emphasize the contrast between the snow and the trees. I also tend to consistently gravitate to warmth in my photos, even if I'm not intentionally trying to "warm it up."

Let me know if you decide to visit Craig Crossing for a photo shoot; it's only a few blocks from our house and I've gotten several photos I like there. If the timing is right maybe I can join you.

I do like your crop, it gives the photo a totallly different feel.

12 Feb 24 Comment Ally, this is a beautiful image. I feel like I could step right onto those stairs leading down to the beach. The colors are also wonderful. The only suggestion I would make would be to nudge the blues in the sky just a tad to the cyan side so that it complements the color of the ocean, that could add to the harmonious feeling of the image.

Also, congratulations on having one of your photos selected for the home page! You do great work!

12 Feb 24 Comment I like the effect of that curved track and the tree on the right that end up framing the tower. This would also be a good example of using framing. Those curving tracks give you a sense of motion and lead you through the photo, but my eye goes right back to that area around the tower where there are so many lines converging. I think I prefer the dark shadows in the trees since it seems to make the image more dramatic. Feb 18th
12 Feb 24 Comment This is the second version that emphasizes the water. I'll admit it doesn't seem as compelling minus much of the rock. Feb 18th
12 Feb 24 Comment Carole, this photo is just filled with leading lines! The branch at the upper left leads me to and down that V of the confluence of water, which then points the way down to that wonderfully overgrown outcropping of rock. The shape of the rock reminds me of a bird's head, with the beak pointing to the left. Then the trees on the top of the rock take me back to the water. The beak is so striking that iI wondered if it would be an interesting photo on its own. I tried cropping the photo into two different versions, one that emphasized the waterfall at the top and that cropped out the area under point of the beak, and a second that cropped out the water at the top so that the waterfall leads down to the rock and it becomes more of the focus. I'm not sure if either version is an improvement over your original, but they do suggest to me that you've got two subjects fighting for attention. Feb 18th
