Mark, thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. I admit I had not paid a lot of attention to this particular photo to begin with, it was just another one sitting on my phone. But when I searched for one that fit this month's topic of "hands" this one popped up, and as I started to edit it became more and more emotional for me as I reflected on those hands that are so familiar to me. I do enjoy putting words with photos.
I checked out some of your Group 83 photos, I particularly like your immense and awe-inspiring skies. |

Thanks, Joan. Both for your kind words and for your support when I was going through those last months.
I recognize your point about the silverware. I do like the contrast of that straight, smooth silverware with Mom's textured, crooked hands. But I might try darkening it so that it doesn't compete so much for attention. |

Thank you Carole. Even though I've read a lot of the classics I have never read anything by Dickens, your comment makes me think that should be next on my list.
You are right that my mom rose above it all - she did have a lot of tragedies in her life and broken fingers were probably the least of them. But her motto was "If you can't do anything about it, you might as well decide to be happy." |

Ally, this is a great photo that has a lot of energy. I like your crop; I have all the information I need about what's going on and the focus on the action makes it very compelling. The vibrant reds against the yellow of the corn are effective and fit the mood of the photo. Nice work. |

Joan, you do such great black and white conversions. The fact that Bob is holding the key fob behind his back does make it intriguing. Everything in the photo except the hands is either black or silver which really makes his hands stand out. It's odd for a photo of a man's hands, but the photo has a simple, gentle vibe. I can't think of anything I would change. |

Connie, There are so many things to like about this image. I agree with Carole, it's so simple and likely much more powerful than a regular portrait shot might have been. All those gold buttons pull me in. Well lit and well exposed.! Wonderful photo. |

It seems like the first thing we notice with regard to aging is our hands, yet we rarely really look at them. I like the way you've emphasized diagonals and the triangular shapes created by your hand, and the textures and lines that tell a story. Good call to remove the background and great job! The only suggestion I have is that the overall image seems very pink, yet when I look at your skin tones they seem natural and the sleeve is obviously pink. I finally noticed that there is pink tinge, probably a reflection of the sweater, that runs along the bottom of the photo that you could probably remove. |
