What an interesting photo Ally, something of a mystery since it makes you wonder about the story and what the ship might have once looked like. Lots of diagonal lines for energy, interesting shapes, plus the waves suggesting motion. I can almost hear the sea. I agree with Connie that adding a more interesting sky would pull attention away from the subject of the photo, and Joan's suggestion that the waves add to the story. I might actually try desaturating the sky a bit as it is very bright and not where the attention needs to be.

It took me a second to understand what I was looking at, but I figured it out pretty quickly before I read your description. The haziness suggests memories of the past, and the angel is where my eye lands first so mission accomplished. I like the fact that if you keep looking at the photo you discover new things. Nice work!
I couldn't resist playing with it a bit so I tried it in b&w - that didn't work at all. I then tried cooling it off a bit, increased contrast, and added a small vignette. The contrast change darkened the background but also reduced some of the haze, so I'm not sure that's the way you would want to go - but I added it below for comparison purposes.
P.S. Love the title, it does look like a tapestry. |

I love the choices you made with your processing. I don't notice any noise, or perhaps the processing just makes it look authentic. I do have Nik software and need to learn more about how to use modules other than Nik Silver FX. Nice composition, and the 3D effect on the frame really works.
This reminds me of the time many years ago when my husband and I went antique shopping while visiting my grandmother and we came home with a glass butter churn we had purchased at an antique store. When she saw it she said "why on earth would you want to buy one of those, I never want to see one of those again!" |

Carole, I echo everything others have said. It was so nice to actually meet your daughter the other night, and heartbreaking to hear that you have lost two sons. The colors and tones of this photo do make this feel very nostalgic, even without knowing the story behind it. This is a photo and memory to treasure. Thank you for sharing it with us. |

Thank you Ally. It was fun to work on, which is what made me fear I was overdoing things. |

Joan - I have to admit I was so happy to see this topic; nostalgia is such a great topic. I haven't looked at the images of others yet, I can't wait to see them. |
