Thank you for your kind words

24 Mar 24 Reply Yes - it was focus stacked with 15 images. Do I need so many shots - depends on depth and size of flower however in this case possibly not. My camera is set with that amount and I do not change same.
I am not sure what you mean by start and end of series. The first shot is point of flower closest to you and then the camera progresses through the flower at an interval of 4.
I always use a tripod and the ISO is 200 and F4.

24 Mar 24 Reply Thank you Yvonne for your kind remarks. Very much appreciated. I find this image so uplifting as I had a chance to talk to his coach. Francisco, the player, was born in Chile with no legs and a deformed hand yet with sheer determination has played wheelchair tennis at the highest level representing his native land and individually both with success. This image was taken at the Australian Grand Slam Tennis Championship earlier this year. Mar 17th
24 Mar 24 Reply Hi Pinaki,
For the sake of repeating what I have entered please read the comments on Yvonne's column.

24 Mar 24 Reply Hi Yvonne,
In my experience in photographing flowers as the main subject, I have found that where you have a light coloured flower it is better to place same on a darker background and conversely with a dark coloured flower place it on a lighter background. In my view this results in the main subject standing out from the background.
In some cases I have found that selecting the subject and creating a separate layer, then returning to the original background, made a vignette using the framed colours. The aim of this method is to keep the viewer's eye on the flower.
I also comment that if the maker is happy with her/his image then ignore what I suggest.

24 Mar 24 Reply Hi Fred,
As I look at your newer image there is, in my opinion, too much included which detracts from the subject. The onion is an ideal subject to focus stack which would remove what is out of focus as presented. I have removed some of these.
Would you consider to rotate the image as I have done?.
In my image I have selected the onion and created a separate layer. I tightened the frame then on the original layer created as vignette using the original colours. This hides some of the white base.
I selected the stem and added some light and detail.
What are your thoughts?

24 Mar 24 Comment In my view the background detracts from the subject which is in good detail. Would you consider separating the subject and then place a vignette around the background using the main colours?
Then slightly lower the colour in the main flower a tad and darkening the leaves.
As there is not much room at the top remove the bright parts.
I have also removed the bright parts of the background near the base of the frame which I have also tightened.

24 Mar 24 Comment Hi Yvonne,
You have done very well capturing this image with a long lens.
Would you consider adding a vignette to darken the background a tad by using the colours within in the background? In my view this results in the poppy standing out more.
Also I have tightened the frame.

24 Mar 24 Comment Hi Fred,
In looking at the histogram on your image it is stacked far too much to the right. Would you consider cropping in on your image and the de-saturating the background?
Also lighten and add some detail on the onion stalk then a slight contrast?
In my view this then removes a lot of distracting detail in the background.

24 Mar 24 Comment Hi Charissa,
I agree with Yvonne - you have captured a beautiful image and have treated the subject in a very interesting way.
In my opinion for what it is worth, would you consider the following method, to show the subject in a more striking way to show the rose.
Place the rose on a black background and remove the small leaf on LHS. Copy and paste the smaller leaf on RHS onto the LHS. I think this way balances the rose better.
Darken the other leaves and then add contrast to the rose and leaves.
What are your thoughts?

24 Mar 24 Reply My view is that the image is much better with the darker background as you have altered..
Personally I prefer the original colour and also with the cropped bottom line it balances the image now on all sides.

24 Mar 24 Comment Hi Bev,
Excellent subject and well seen.
Would you consider separating the subject by darkening the background. For me the background detracts from the lovely subject which is not super sharp.
I would also suggest you consider lightening the flowers and then adding some contrast. I have tightened the image a tad.
