Hi Alan,
As Josh has said, the image's subject is very clearly highlighted with a nice supporting background. Well seen!
Agree with David about bringing even more attention to the flag by taking the brightness down on the background, and I would play with the highlights and/or Dehaze on the flag. I think the reflected light there takes away from the subject.
Nice composition.

Hi Owen, A very colourful image with a great deal of impact, and very well exposed. You certainly nailed that !
To me the curve of the freeway in the foreground may act like a leading line, however it also draws my eye away from the main subject of the image which is the fireworks because it is so bright. I find the two competeing with each other.
Two possible solutions may be to quieten down the car lights in Lightroom, or, a rather dramatic crop could serve the purpose too. I have taken the liberty of having a play with your image, and gone the crop route, with a bit of dodging and burning to boot.
Overall your image is a really sharp capture of a challenging subject, well done.

Hi Craig,
I love your image .. very impactful! I think it is a really satisfying creative that has a nice balance about it, and the fun use of colours go together well to make a very pleasing pallette. The black negative space adds to the drama.
I think you have captured your intent of producing a multiple exposure extremely well.
And the final touch is that you can just make out a human shape ( you? ) in the midst of all the mahem and movement. Just adds another level to the image. |

Hi Josh, thanks for your reply. Yes it was a fantastic place full of charm .. I really could have settled in there for quite few hours given the opportunity!
I see what you mean about the brightest part of the image etc. It was a bit of a balancing act I will say .. I was hoping to emphasize the "mood" of the place which in my one overriding memory of the whole experience. But I do take your point about the eye being drawn. Cheers |

Hi David, thanks for your comments!
I would LOVE to go back and reshoot the image, and when I do get back to NYC ( hopefully this year ) I will make a point of going to the bar again ( under Grand Central ) with your comments in mind !
Yeah that blob in the bottom left is the over-stuffed arm of the couch I was sitting on .. unfortunately I didnt register that it got in the shot at the time.
Cheers

Generative fill. After the discussion last month around Craig's image, I thought I would have a little play around with AI.
But as I said, this was quick and dirty fix, I just accepted one of the first three responses. I'm sure that given a few more attempts it could probably come up with something better. |

Hi David,
A stong image that grabs the viewer's attention straight away. The mono treatment fits the image beautfully.
I must say however, that i think the subject of the image is more about the interesting geography of the land. It is such a dominant feature in the image, strengthened by the fine detail in the foreground, it works to pull the eye away from the sky in the background. Well, at least it does for me.
I love the texture and 3D feel of the forground, it makes for an interesting story of how the land has formed over time.
Cheers

I had the same thought, but you could just title the image "Now THIS is how you use chopsticks!" ha ha !

Hi Peggy, A colourful and interesting shot here, it has good imapact and draws the viewer in immediately. I look at the shot and am made to think think "what is the story here?" Reall commendable!
I do think that it is a bit 'soft' however. This may have been due to the 1/6th sec speed if it was shot handheld. Possibly it may have been better to consider something faster with an apt around f/8 - f/11 maybe.
Apart from that, its an interesting subject and very well lit, and I would not be concerned with the noise it seems to fit the 'feel' of the image, but if you are concerned about it, Im sure that any decent de-noise programe could tidy it up nicely. Cheers. |

Hi Josh, Love the image of your kiddo... a very engaging shot indeed. The smile says it all!
One thing I would say though, is that the cup on the table is a bit distracting, being quite large and one of the brightest things in the image, it tends to draw the eye away. I have taken the liberty of doing a quick and dirty removal in PS, ( including the TV screen at the top of frame ) Just a thought ... see what you think.
Also love the mono treatment and grain .. I think it may have removed unneccesary distractions.
Really well done.
