Mary Ann, wow! The original image would have given you a nice shot after post-processing. Blending the two images and using Silver Effects made it spectacular. I'm curious to know what led you to think of doing that. It would be a great learning experience for me. Thanks. |

Kieu-Hanh, nice job with the blossoms and Jefferson Memorial. I was sorry that I wasn't able to make it downtown to see them at their peak this year. I prefer the image in color. |

Ruth, "Dramatic" was my first thought when I looked at your photo. The B/W conversion and post-processing makes the image what it is. The final result is much more impressive than the original shot. |

Andres, great job with the shot and the processing. I'm just now getting a chance to look at everyone's submissions. My compliments for taking the time to stop on the side of the road and take the shot. You've done a nice job of changing your submission based on the feedback, and I prefer the final version that you posted. |

Mary Ann, thank you for your kind comments. I really like the Z 100-400 lens and am very happy with it. It's easy to carry and hand-shoot, and its close focus gives me near-macro capability. I'm a beekeeper and take lots of shots of bees on flowers. I can't remember the last time that I used my 105 f-mount macro with the adapter. I have the 1.4x teleconverter. To be honest, I only use it occasionally when I am only going out to take bird pics. My 24-120 f/4 and the 100-400 +/- the 1.4x teleconverter is all that I ever use on my Z8. I hung onto my Z6 and have the the 24-200 kit lens on it. It's my quick grab and travel combo. I've been tempted to get the 28-400 for travel. How have you liked that lens?
The Z 180-600 lens is a lot of range for the price. It is much less than the 100-400 plus a teleconverter. It wasn't out when I got the 100-400. The 100-400 is an S lens with better optics; however, I'm not sure how important that is at my skill level. The reviews that I've read say the 180-600 is better for bird and wildlife photography and the 100-400 is more versatile. Let me know what you decide. |
