3 Aug 25 Reply Not that I know of. Hoping that you'll post to the group. I was stationed at West Point many years ago Aug 24th
3 Aug 25 Reply Joan, the rookery was full of white ibises and great egrets. My typing was off and I meant to say that we only say a couple of herons on this trip. The conservancy had a sign describing the birds in the rookery. I've learned to take a shot of signs when I travel and not trust my memory. We have a place in central Virginia and the blue herons are here almost all of the year. I saw them and a bald eagle this morning . Of course, I didn't have a camera with me. Aug 23rd
3 Aug 25 Reply Mary Ann, what has your experience with the 28-400 been like? Aug 21st
3 Aug 25 Comment Joan, thank you for sharing this photo and the challenging job of removing the lion from the background. Such complex editing in Photoshop far exceeds my skill set. Aug 18th
3 Aug 25 Comment Mary Ann, I like how you've cropped the shot to focus on the group of horses and used dehaze to bring out the mountains and the sky. I'll have to do some research on Mono Lake and the wild horses. Another trip to Yosemite is on my list, perhaps I'll be able to make it there too. Aug 18th
3 Aug 25 Comment Kieu-Hahn, I'm just catching up on going through the group's submissions this month and don't have much to add. As always, I appreciate that you share shots from your world travels. Looking forward to a trip to Rome later this year. Aug 18th
3 Aug 25 Comment Ruth, it's a perfect image. The moose, the Tetons, and the clouds. You've done a great job of capturing the moment in one of my favorite national parks. Aug 18th
3 Aug 25 Comment Abdullah, welcome to the group! I appreciate the time that you've taken the time to create a still life photo and shared the story of its meaning. I had focused on the story that you shared of why you took the picture and didn't catch the lighter spots in the background. They're easy to remove, and I took a very quick shot at it. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work. Aug 18th
3 Aug 25 Comment Andres, great job of capturing the horse and the rider at the peak of the jump and editing the photo. It looks as if the rider is sticking out his tongue as they go over the jump. You must have had great light to have captured the shot at 1/3200 sec and only been at ISO 400. Enjoy the beautiful fall in the Hudson Valley and be sure to share some pictures. Aug 18th
3 Aug 25 Reply Thanks Mary Ann! I use DxO for another photo class, so I have a bit more experience with it than Topaz. In my hands it's seems to be better removing noise than Topaz. Topaz seems to be better at sharpening and correcting focus. I tend to get a lot of artifacts with Topaz AI; however, I suspect that it's user error and not the software. Camera raw denoise seems to work okay with lower ISO's. I think that 12800 is the max for the Z6. I was regretting not having my Z8 and a longer lens on this trip. The Z8 has less noise than the Z6 at even higher ISO's. Aug 17th
3 Aug 25 Reply Thanks Joan. You're right about having problems with blowing out the whites on the egrets. I was going back and forth between the birds in the trees and the birds flying in, so I had no idea how to rapidly change my exposure compensation. We saw very herons on this trip. I'm not sure about their migration. Aug 17th
3 Aug 25 Reply Thank you. I had a bit of trouble focusing on the bird that I wanted. I tried different modes and got lucky with this shot. Aug 17th
3 Aug 25 Reply Thank you Ruth. I looked back at the sequence of shots, and the young ibis on the right never looked back at the other birds. As for the 200 lens, I was kicking myself for not bringing my 100-400 zoom on the trip. Aug 17th
3 Aug 25 Reply Thank you! I think they were discussing who will get the prime perch for the evening Aug 17th
