This is an image that makes one ponder . . WHAT are those intense blue eyes staring down? Is he perturbed or just curious? How long is the rest of his body? It makes me laugh. Fun photography! :) |

I'm voting for your original crop although the alternates are also very nice! I find the full flower adds so much beautiful texture, shape and color, and like Sylvia, I feel like I'm with the bird in it's happy meadow. The bird looks to be singing while showing off it's perfectly fanned tail! :) |

Stunning feather detail and colors!! The sharp red eye and markings are in beautiful contrast with the light green bokeh background. As was mentioned, just a bit more space around the bird might be nice. Well done! |

I just looked at your photography site listed in your bio. It is fabulous. My friend lives in Ferny Creek which I think is somewhat close to you. :) |

Hi Kathie ~
I have a photographer friend in Victoria and stayed there for the month of November last year. I love Australia! I am going back next April and as I recently heard about the black swans I told my friend I want to photograph them! :)
Welcome to our group! |

I'm curious how you blurred the background. Did you mask the owl by selecting the subject and then invert it, perhaps taking down the texture and clarity sliders to make it 'softer'? Or? . . .
It's great shot and the cropping and blurred background really makes the owl pop! |

Thank you for your input! I can now see the long blade of grass could be seen as a distraction. I appreciate other photographers suggestions as it helps me to grow! |

Well done shot on a beautiful and unique bird! Like Julia, I would remove the 'soft' smaller crane to give the main crane full attention. I love the wide-open position of its wings and wing tips, plus it's colorful face shows lots of personality and focus! :) |

Great Blue Herons are one of my favorite birds. The beautiful light is what makes this a gorgeous photo in my mind as it brings out the bird's iridescent colors, plus you captured great detail. The tips of the bird's wings just touching the water is an added bonus! |

Roy, you are now a 'seasoned' member and I will happily be the newbie! :)
I thought of cropping more although I liked the overarching grasses. That being said, your cropped version very nicely emphasizes the swans curved necks which is what draws me to the image. Great to see variations of the same image! |

Sylvia ~ Thanks for the warm welcome and comments! It was definitely like capturing a private moment with the swan couple. With continuous shoot mode I captured a sequence of the birds doing a sweet gesture of connection as their heads raised and lowered in unison with a brief touch of their beaks at the high point. :) |
