Wow! What a complex image! I really like the tones of it, and the soft lighting. I do find the 'blinds' lighting a bit at odds with the much harsher shadow of the violin. Shame the tip of the box is missing. I'd also aim to get rid of that triangle on the right - is it the edge of a board you are using for background. But still a nice atmospheric study of the violin. |

Amazing shot! Gruesome, but what action and expressions! You ask what could make it better and I think very little. Being picky I might remove that lighter 'line' in the water at the front as it does draw the eye - maybe also the triangle at the back. Just because judges hate 'distractions' round the edges. Obviously, in a Nature competition though this would not be acceptable. |

Great capture! I'd crop a bit to remove the 'dead' space in the front, but otherwise not change anything. The image you posted was very small so it was tricky to see the detail. I probably agree with Butch and removing the non-landing birds, but I didn't think they were a problem at the time. |

Great character shot. The crop doesn't bother me personally except for the fact the skirting board around the edge of the room is showing and rather messy. Could it be tweaked in PS? I'd also remove the triangle in the background above his head. But still, a very nice image. |

Nice sharp capture of moving subjects - being really picky I'd mention the fact the right hand edge of a drum has been cropped - but generally well composed and well lit. |

Thanks Barbara. :) Yes, camera still rather a challenge but getting there...I think! |

Thanks Butch for taking the time. :) That strong right line bothered me more and more so I did work to lessen it in PS. It's a pic I might revisit at some stage - and even think of removing the line as you suggest. When taking the shot it didn't seem half so obvious....! |

Hi Cheryl and thanks. If you Google 'lightpaintig still life' you will find several videos etc on the basic technique in Youtube. This photo was taken with the net curtain draped behind the vase/flowers and then other textures layered on top in Photoshop - almost certainly using 'soft light' mode but also sometimes low percentages of other modes. Cloud overlays are also often helpful to get the pastel look. Hope this helps! :) |
