I think so too. But probably not exciting enough for a competition so I may or may not get round to it. It was fun getting the image, anyway! Thanks. :) |

Cheers Rich - it's always difficult to know what the purpose of the posting is. I tend to think it is for competitions etc as that is my reason being here, but I do recognize that is not always the case. So if comments are inappropriate then this is probably why. No offence intended etc etc. All the best. :) |

Great sky, good light etc. But the distortion from the wide angle lens mentioned also by Gaetan disturbs me - especially the person on the left who tilts very obviously. I'd use distort to pull him/her back to nearer upright. To start with I didn't think the trees were a problem - but having adjusted on left hand side for the photographer, they seemed more obvious... Have a look. You lose the impression of scale and vastness though which is a shame. In retrospect - several shots merged into a panorama might have been a better choice. Is that reason enough to return there? Looks a wonderful place! ;) |

Definitely an interesting pose but the colours are very over saturated and blown out. There is no detail in his neck, for example, or the back of his jacket. You may get away with this in a black and white conversion though, if you feel incline.... |

Yes - by total freezing I mean completely still, as though hung there on a string for the photo. A little movement might have been good - but such is life and split second decisions are what they are...! I also think you are probably right about the high speed and high iso which could have created this effect. Good luck. You did very well, I'd say, to get the image at all! :) |

Thanks Hoshedar. Yes, less keen on the first one as the main bird seems to lack texture and rather as if it was added in Photoshop (I know it wasn't!). I love the composition with the other 2 exiting the frame, almost making room for this one. But the sharp edges and total 'freezing' of the bird seems strange. I can't help wondering if a bit of movement might have been good...but tricky image to get and obviously not a lot of time to think and plan! :) |

Nice objects and yes, they joy of still life is most apparent in the winter! I would probably have placed the objects central to the boards in some way for symmetry, and probably placed the camera a bit higher up so that we are looking directly at the plant, and not up to it, although the translucent effect is good. Shame the front end of that pod is out of focus. Did you have another shot where that part is in focus - to stack and merge in? I also felt a closer crop would be good - yes, I know - I always leave 'too much negative space' according to judges so do feel free to completely ignore! |

Great colours - nice! I'd crop to emphasize these and the main subject of the image. That gets rid of the potential distractions top left and bottom right. I also like the amount of blur. Enough to show the movement but not so much as to turn it into satin. |

In my opinion the better image is the second one. Great 'freezing' of the water and very well handled highlights. I also like the composition very much. It seems maybe a bit 'green' though - I simply did auto on levels and doing so reduced the green which I think enhances the image overall. See what you think. |

This really is quite good for someone not very used to light painting. Adding a candle was brave as it makes it all very much more difficult, plus to get a not-overexposed candle and enough light from a torch means all sorts of balancing. If I were you, I'd avoid that until you are more practiced. Nice objects, though, well placed, though I would also suggest a bit too far apart. Shadows are still a bit harsh. Try wrapping some tissue around the light source to soften it, and make sure you get right in close to the objects. How long was the exposure? From my experience I would imagine for this something like 10 secs. But do keep on trying - still life is great fun, especially on a winter's day! |
