Thanks Barbara. I'll have a look at the crop suggestion but am aware I need to get on and post for September- doesn't time fly!! I thought Hoshedar's tilting of your image was good too, by the way. More dynamic in some way. The background is gorgeous.:) |

Tweaked. I tried darkening the leaf in question but it looked ever worse, as if I was hiding it (which is the truth!). So I took the opposite approach, went back to the tiff and chose a variation, brightened around it so that it is more an integral part of the arrangement rather than an accidental distraction. I also increased the pink a bit, and reduced the glare on the vase as suggested. I prefer it...... |

Hi Tom. Thanks. I intended to have a go at tweaking this image as suggested but August has been frantic and next month could be worse. But I'll get there. I hope the PSA online course on still life will run again but it isn't happening at the moment. Fingers crossed for the autumn! Good luck with still life/light painting. My light painting is very basic - single shot, no more than 20 or 30 seconds, especially when featuring flowers as petals and leaves tend to move....or fall off! Onwards! :) |

Thanks. I will have a play with the image in due course. Yes, I'm a major fan of still life but also flower photography. :) |

Re the background. It is a Selens background - I just happened across the same one for sale on Amazon! |

Hi Hoshedar - it is unusual for somebody to suggest my photo be darker than I make them! Usually I am told they are too dark! But actually I rather like the darker still edition....and yes, maybe reducing that glare would be a good idea... I will try it out. Thanks! |

Lovely image - and the way you have done the background is great. |

Love the symmetry - almost with eyes and a face! If it were me, though, I would have adjusted the geometry to make it more vertical/horizontal - which also emphasizes the 'face'. But I realize this is rustic so maybe it doesn't matter - and I'm just being picky! Just my thoughts.... |

Great texture on the hat and gloves but agree with Gaetan that the background would benefit from being tidied up and made fully black.Finishing touch. |

Hi Gaetan. I love the guy's expression which you have captured perfectly - and at night handheld too! If I was you, I'd crop closer in on him though - the composition works really well and many of the potentially distracting elements are dealt with. Just my thoughts...obviously, at this stage I have no idea of your preferences, style etc so feel free to completely disregard! |

Hi Rich and thanks for the welcome! I use micro 4 3 so depth of field is helpful at times like this - though less helpful when a very narrow range is required eg macro. Swings and roundabouts I fancy! The background is printed plastic I rescued from a retiring photographer. It had been wrapped into a roll probably for all its life and looked like it would never flatten. But when I want an 'infinity' background it just doesn't matter! :) |
