I usually use the background mask in lightroom then use the +- for that mask and use the brush/object etc to clean up the mask. Other tools I use are the radial tool to cover the subject then inverse and sometimes I use the linear gradient tool from the edges. |

Another great shot. With high ISO's (which you sometimes have to deal with big glass and high min f stops) I like to sharpen and denoise images in "Topez". I also darkened the background some and added a little exposure to the eye. Let me know what you think. |

Great photo. On some of my bird shots, to get the eyes to stand out a little more, I will (just a little) mask the eye(s) and bump the exposure/contrast/saturation. I also do this while viewing the full frame so the result looks natural. will see if you guys can see a difference and if it still looks natural. |

Ok, the contest is on, where is the most colorful bird located?? Florida? Germany? and other contestants? All in good fun of course! |

I think you did a great job with the crop and removing the branch. I would have even trimmed the small knub just to the left of the bird. In my experience, all competitions seem to have slightly different rules, so I read the rules for each one carefully. "Nature" category usually does not allow removal of items, but many other do. |
