Jim, this iteration I used object mask to select the end of the log and its refection, lowered the exposure and tinted it a little green. I then linearly mask from left and right and slightly lowered the exposure to add more attention to the subject and putting the log a little more in the background.
As for my wildlife settings, yes, the wide-open f stop is a challenge with depth of field, but I except that so as to get more light to my sensor (lower ISO at high shutter speed and great blurred backgrounds) |

Jim, you sure pulled that photograph out of the weeds! I think your cropping did a good job, but I was left distracted by the bright end of the log and as you mentioned the right side seemed to need more room. Further cropping results in lose of some of the environment, but I think more focus on the subject. Also I use Auto ISO for most of my shoots, as I keep my telephoto f stop wide open and set my shutter speed based on the speed of the subject. I use 1/1250 - 1/2000 for flying birds except if I want to freeze humming bird wings. |

Great details and color. The blue really stands out, giving a visual punch to the bird's name. I might have given the bird a little more room in front and above as if it is anticipating to take flight. |

An attention grabber. Filmmakers of alien movies cannot compete with birds! I prefer the side view though, it looks like you had a very short depth of field and the side view, in one focal plane is all in focus. |

Great picture, like the reflection in the eye and the bird's color. You might want to crop a little more and darken the background so as not to compete with the subject. |

Great picture of Godwits, like that they are all in focus. You might consider lowering the exposure and removing some of the items in the sand. |
