Welcome to the group. I have made two short trips to Australia and would love to return for a visit (but the looong plane ride!). Great photo. I often like to crop my pictures in a way that gives a different perspective to the viewer. However I like to start with a little larger area, so I have more choices in postproduction. I also like to use lightroom and photoshop to remove distractions. In this case I removed a few branches and darkened edges and hotspots. |

I sometimes select the object & invert, sometimes the background or if sky is in the picture, I use it. Lightroom seems to acquire stuff differently in each case. I also use +- on the mask (most often the "object" to select) Once I have the background masked to the best of my ability I play with temp/exposure/texture and clarity to get what looks best. |

Thats where photography becomes an art! Take any given subject, How the photographer frames the picture, adjusts the camera settings, and manipulates it in postprocessing can alter the entire experience for the viewer! |

I start in lightroom to load / delete and catalogue my photos. LR is now so powerful I do most of my post processing there. I also use Topez AI to sharpen and denoise, it does wonders on High ISO / large cropping. More detailed adjustments cloning adding stuff, transforming I go to photoshop. A subscription to Adobe (including lightroom - photoshop) is $10 a month. Also lots of free classes on line. |

I just joined last month, now Iam not the newest member, welcome. Nice to have folks from around the world! Very nice photo and I liked the grass framing the top. I wondered how it would look cropped a little more. (as others have seen, I am a cropper!) I also removed some grass off the right bird. Do not think it is better but gives a little different vibe. |

I looked over the original and I think the eye and front of the body are on the same plane, but it is hard to tell. Here is a tighter cropped version. One of the things I enjoy about telephotos it is always a surprise when I put them on a large monitor. Never would have seen the blue eyes with the naked eye! |

I think the bird from the back is ok as you got its eye. I would have been more aggressive with the crop to balance the bird and flower. |

I like you photo. Birds must have been low as you got great detail with a 200mm lens. I like the way large birds spread their wing tip feathers. From the internet: "Nature, by contrast, takes a less disdainful attitude toward torsion-in some applications adequate resistance matters, but in many others function depends on having sufficient torsional flexibility. A bird's wingtip feathers must twist in one direction during the upstroke of the wings and in the other direction during the downstroke to keep the local wind striking the wing at an appropriate angle to generate lift and thrust…The turning could be done at the base, with a completely inflexible feather; the aerodynamics are improved and material saved if the local flow forces twist the feather by just the right amount." |

Nice photo, I think the fast shutter speed helped a lot. On my photos like this and with an online format, I have tried to think out of the box and play more with odd size boxes. Here I may have cropped a little from the top and bottom. |

I like your picture. In my experience owls ether have their eyes closed or are looking the other way. You might consider a tighter crop and I masked the owl and branch and blurred the background a little. If I was going to enlarge it at all I would have run it through Topaz AI. |
