Hi Gloria. I love this image especially the orange color of the sky which implies you were there at the right time. I agree with Robert that objects in odd numbers are better - but that like rule of thirds is just a guide and it depends on the photographer's personal choice. Though I can see a third cloud, though smaller than the other two, on the extreme left of the image. I would have brightened up the water a little bit to bring the contrast in the image. While I agree with Haru that a ship, boat, rocks would have given a sense of scale. |

Hi Bob. First of all, wishing you a speedy recovery. I love the images of seascapes especially lighthouses as we have very limited landscape here in the UAE (Other than the desert and modern architecture). Most of them have already provided elaborate comments on your image. I would prefer the lighthouse to be in rule of thirds composition rather than it being in the centre. I fee the blue color of the water is oversaturated. Also the image is split in half. I would prefer that the either the sky or the water takes 2/3rd of the image rather than 1/2 each. |

The highlight of the image is the bright areas on the upper left of the image and the contrast on the lower right part of the image. And the clouds add to the drama and make the image surreal. Ideally the capture should have been at f/8 (and you have mentioned you do not know why you took it at f/5). I would like the lower part of the image to be a bit brighter but not brighter enough to make the image flat. |

Hi Haru. Having a brigher part in the image focuses one attention on that part which is the purpose of an image. The question I have is - whether the part that is lighted up is naturally lit or has it been brightened up in post processing? If it has been brightened up in post processing then I would wonder what is the photographer's contribution in the image. However if it is a natural light that is falling only on that part of the image or a part of that part of the image and then you have brightened up the balance part, then it makes sense. |
