I couldn't resist. Went to Wikipedia and found out how these falls got their name:
Buttermilk Falls was named for the frothy appearance of its churning waters. The naming of the cascade was described in 1866:
Here cleft by a mountain torrent, that comes pouring over the sharp rocks of its bed in a mass of thick, frothy foam, that evidently suggested to the unaesthetic and domestic countryman the name of Buttermilk Falls.
Looks like a very serene place. I'm not much of a pixel peeper, but it looks like you got a good shot at 1/4 second handheld. Of course, tripods always help keep things steadier and in this case also would have allowed for a longer exposure and a smoother texture to the falls. But sometimes you just have to work with what you have. One of my most successful images of the last year I took with my iPhone 11. If I ever do make it to the East Coast to see the fall colors, I'll make a point of visiting this place. Thanks for sharing, Leslie. |

Now that's a bird with personality! I agree with the others, Judy. You nailed the exposure. The background is nicely out of focus to draw attention to your subject yet provide some subtle complementary colors. I think this photo also illustrates the value of shooting either early or late in the day. Great job! |

Nice shot, Donald. You certainly cropped it tightly. I'm going to have to buy some new gear so I catch up with the rest of you! |

Nice shot, Peter. Looks like you had a good trip! My only suggestions would be to crop a little tighter so we can peer more deeply into this beautiful animal's eyes and to add a little vibrance to give the image a little more pop. He's giving you quite the stare! How fun. |

Thanks, Sherry. Yes, there is quite a variation in the views from the train. The tracks wind their way up over the mountains and down into southern Colorado. Extraordinary views everywhere! This shot was taken the last week of September of 2022. First week of October probably would have been peak color for the aspens. You can see in this image many of them hadn't turned yet, but I still like the variation in colors. Appreciate the compliment! |

Very nice, Sarita. Apart from your excellent composition and exposure decisions, there is a story there with the fishing line hanging from its beak. There's so much wildlife that suffers from human litter. A little context about that is the only thing I would have like to learn more about. We photographers are, after all, ambassadors for the environment. Great shot! |

Great photo, Sherry. Yes, indeed, you captured quite a moment to give an excellent composition that extra bit of character. Wouldn't change a thing. |
