Peter, This was image was an instinctive response to several factors This was the most interesting light at this particular time of the day. So I suppose it was a quasi-abstract. What I was trying to show was the beauty of the golden aspens juxtaposed against the shadows. Hence, the abstrac- like quality you noted. As I mentioned, I didn't have time to set up my tripod, so I had to make some quick decisions. My focus point was in the middle of the frame where the brightest aspens were. That, to me, was the story. I was willing to sacrifice a little DOF in foreground and background as a result. Thanks for your comments. |

Thank you, Sarita. Yes, Colorado is beautiful this time of the year. So are many other areas in the Mountain West. You won't regret a visit. Bring a tripod! |

Excellent shot, Leslie. That must have been a thrilling moment to come face to face with a wolf. Looks like you nailed the exposure. I think I would have cropped it a little tighter to bring out that penetrating gaze. Nice job! |

Very nice, Donald. I agree with Sarita's comments. In addition, I'm impressed with how much you were able to bump up the ISO and still get good results. Did you use any kind of Denise software? Or is that part of the "Enhance" feature? Nonetheless, excellent image. |

Very nice, Peter! Good capture of gesture, and I agree with Sarita that the red crab is a nice bonus--kind of a comical counterpoint. Great job! |

Very nice, Sarita. Good exposure. Clean background. Easy to make out the detail in the owl. Would have been nice to see the burrowing owl making some gesture or with some prey in its beak. But I'm sure you had to grab what you could while there. Good job. |

Very nice photo, Sherry. Kudos on the composition--reating a triad between your main subject, the sunrise and the ripple in the water where presumably the heron's breakfast was doing its best to escape. Very effective. I also like the way you used a subject mask to bring up the exposure on the heron. Shows attention to detail throughout the whole process. Great job! |
