Wow! Such fantastic detail. Hand held, to boot. Very nice. Excellent balance between the implied motion in the wings and the tack-sharp focus on the eyes and head. Great job. |

I like this image because there's a lot of implied gesture between the two flamingos. You can really feel their connection. I actually like the original better, though, because of the reflection. It gives you a sense of place. I'm going to have to add bird sanctuaries to my list of places to visit. Nice job. |

Nice cropping job, Peter. I've seen one of these birds only twice in my life--both times up at Lake Tahoe. Not an easy subject to capture. Would have liked to see the end of this bird's beak, but that's a minor comment. Still a great shot, considering how many pixels you had to crop out to get this final image. |

Very nice, Sarita. Looks like you got that hummingbird to hold still for you--even at that high shutter speed. Great focus on the eye. The flowers are a nice complement, as well. BTW, in the last few years I've been learning about the spiritual qualities of hummingbirds in many cultures. In the last year I lost a good friend and a good dog. The hummingbirds showed up after each of them departed. So your shot made me smile. Thanks. |

Sherry, I love this shot. It has a dreamy, ethereal quality. Nice balance between your subject and the background--those two elements work very well together. The clouds are an essential part of the story. Great job. |

Thanks everyone for the marvelous feedback. Much appreciated. Since I did shoot this photo with my iPhone 11 and thus a JPEG file, I did a little research and found that I could create a smart filter in Photoshop that would give me access to most of the controls in a regular RAW file, which I would have had with my DSLR. I didn't know you could do that, so I tried it and gave the original image more pop by adding vibrance (as opposed to saturation), more definition of the clouds with texture, clarity and sharpening, and some other minor adjustments. I decided against cropping the photo because I wanted some of the desert landscape plants to show, as well as the cloud tops. This was just a wonderful learning experience and I wouldn't have done it were not for all of you. Next time I'll submit an image from my DSLR. I have a few in mind. I think I'll probably get a reputation as the landscape guy in this group. Again, thanks everyone.--John |
