26 Oct 23 Comment Jose, There is a story in this image, whether is the facts of the shot that you describe, or the story that the viewer can make. The exposure was well handled with the dark background, bright window frame, and great skin rendering. It seems to me that the window frame is a little soft Oct 9th
26 Oct 23 Comment Tony, I'm struck by her wonderful expression and the range of tones in the image in what looks to be available light. Great exposure that reminds me of the old fine grain B&W films. I agree with Kirsti on the crop but for a slightly different reason. I was annoyed by the weelchair handle intersecting the person in the background. I might try just cropping in from the right and not up from the bottom also. Oct 9th
26 Oct 23 Comment Bob, This is a very nice image and I think the processing you mentioned really makes the photo. I want to shoot some mills and will add this one to my list. I hope to get to McConnells Mill SP in Portersvill, PA (about 3 hrs SW of me) this week, and perhaps to Lanterman's Mill, near Youngstown, OH. I may try to get to Glade Creek next spring. I think I prefer the portrait version. It brings the mill a little closer although I like the leading line of the stream on the left in the Original 2 version. This is a tough decision. As I look a little longer, I think I prefer the leading line image. Oh Well, if it was me, I'd have to print both and live with them for a while. Oct 9th
26 Oct 23 Reply Thankyou Kirsti This gorge runs pretty much north - south, so mid day lighting works here. Along with some cooperative clouds darkening the background, I was able to capture this. Yes, the polarizer helps the water, in this case, darkening. I did burn the bottom right corner of the water slightly to better match the rest of the water. This year, I decided to try to find single trees, or small groups of trees, hopefully with other objects of interest rather than the wider shots of the whole hill side. Oct 9th
