Lance,
Thanks so much for your comment and example. For the most part, I agree. I sometimes get "lost in the moment" and don't adjust the camera settings as I should although I feel that with VR, 1/60 is not a big problem. And, as many times as we walked past this building, I should have gotten the settings right. I do like your crop and the direction that you're taking. I feel that something is missing now at the bottom of the image although I'm not sure if that is because of my familiarty with my original image or not even though the bottom of my image is mostly lost in the shadows. I will definitely do this crop and live with it for a while. |

The complimentary colors and textures work well in this image while the bench, and flower pot add interest. I would like to have seen a little of the wall to the left of the shutter and I might have cloned out the "40" house number. Great capture. |

I like both of these images and I think I prefer Bob's treatment of the hazy image. The expressions of the singer fit well with the clear and the hazy images with the singer's softer expression in the haze and a stronger feeling in the clear. I've gotten away from using a "standard" vignette on images, instead drawing a rough selection around the "subject", adding two adjustment layers with a mask from the selection, one to brighten slightly the subject and the other (invert the mask) to darken the non-subject. I use a gaussian blur with a number roughly equal to the focal length of the image to "feather" the masks. |
