9 Feb 25 Reply Randy, I'll review the work you, and others in this group, have done. Thank you for your time and effort, very much appreciated. Thanks. Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Reply Linda, thank you for your comments. A vignette is a great idea I'll try. Thanks. Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Reply Thank you Sabine. I had played with cropping the image as you did, knowing the bright sky could be distracting. But when I did crop, I felt the image lost balance so I left it in. In any case, this was a challenging photo to work with and I did benefit from the feed back from group members with improvements I simply overlook. Thanks for your feedback. Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Reply Thank you Yvonne, I Like the work on the fence line. As often as I looked at my image, I simply never considered the kind of improvements you made to the smaller details. Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Reply Thank you Sylvia. I do like how you were able to make the image appear less flat, with more definition. Thank you. Feb 18th

Linda, you created a fun and inspirational image to view. I like how the colors intertwine with each other and form a spiral shape that lead me down into the center of the image. The colors are bright and bold which makes this image even more appealing. I tried this type of shot years ago with flowers using slide film, but I used a tripod to steady the camera, so I'm impressed you managed this nice shot hand held. Nice job!

9 Feb 25 Comment Sabine, I am always impressed with your photography which motivates me to think outside the box. This month's entry is no exception. Mirroring the image certainly makes better use of the sidewalk as a leading line to the door and I like the color saturation done on all elements of the composition, except I think the green is a little to intense for me. The effect of the camera movement and color on the leaves is especially appealing to me. Personally, the amount of camera movement used for this photo has less of an impact on me than was done on your previous two flower images, which I really liked, and I thought was done very well. I did cropped the image to 2x3 format and using the rule of thirds for the door, to direct my attention more to the sidewalk leading me to the most interesting part of your image, which is the door centered under the arch of the tree branches. What do you think? Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Comment Yvonne, I really like your image. Expressions and actions you captured remind me of the innocence of youth and make me smile. I like Sabine's version of your photo that improves lighting, color and crop size, but I do prefer a blurred background, simply to create separation of distracting backgrounds from your subject.
I don't have experience shooting indoors so I'm afraid I can't offer much in terms of recommendations, but I do think your position was perfect, especially in a basketball court. I prefer seeing the front of the players in action in lieu of side profiles. Given the distance from you and the players as seen in your original photo, I wonder if opening the aperture to f2.8, setting speed at 1/250-1/500 sec and adjusting ISO as needed while keeping focus on your nephew, would have been adequate to allow more needed light to reach your sensor, and fast enough to stop action, while maintaining sharpness and possibly result in more background blur. Adjusting ISO to accommodate those settings might result in a grainer image, but Lightroom (or Topaz) provide tools to help reduce the grain.
I think you did well to capture a memorable moment, especially if they won the game!

9 Feb 25 Comment This is a very nice image of an owl (something I've never been able to see during my walks). The colors and pattern of its feathers are really very nice, and its perch on the tree branch are perfect. The catch light in its eyes are a bonus. I agree with Yvonne recommendation to crop. Very nice image Sylvia. Feb 17th
9 Feb 25 Comment Randy, a really nice shot of this hawk with a nice country background. How lucky for you that he posed for you, with his best side towards you at that! The sunlight is an inviting warm glow that highlights the colors of the bird, and a great backround nicely. Significantly cropping an image will certainly impact sharpness but even so, I think your hawk, fence post and the grass at the base of the post, are pretty sharp. Improper Physical posture while hand holding a camera with a long lens can affect image quality. I also wouldn't hesitate to shoot at a faster shutter speed when hand holding a camera with a long lens, to help mitigate any movement while shooting. Your aperature setting produced a great background, and a one stop smaller setting might also result in a sharper image without compromise to the background quality. Your photo tells an appealing story, nice job Randy. Feb 7th

21 Feb 25 Comment Thank you for the feedback Mike, much appreciated. I think you're right about the blurred water, so I will experiment. The image does suffer with lack of detail because of the severe cropping, especially on the black crown. I'm afraid there is little else to be done to this image, so I'll enjoy it for what it is. Thanks again Mike. Feb 23rd
21 Feb 25 Comment Thanks Michael. Shooting in manual mode is like juggling balls for me. My grandkids enjoy when I juggle two balls at a time for them. But they laugh at me when I try using three balls. Forget it, auto ISO is a must! Feb 22nd
21 Feb 25 Reply Thank you Ron. Feb 22nd
21 Feb 25 Reply Thanks Tom, not comfortable shooting in manual mode, but will continue to practice. Feb 22nd
21 Feb 25 Reply Thank you Leslie Feb 22nd
21 Feb 25 Comment Tom, great shot! What an interesting bird especially with the soft beige plumage under its chin. The detail and sharpness are very good and the colors are fantastic. The eye detail, color and catchlight are perfect. I thought the overall image was just a little too dark for my taste, so I increased exposure just a bit. What do you think? Feb 18th
21 Feb 25 Comment Good job with your post processing bringing all the colors together nicely. The pose of the bird is perfect, and I like the composition and angle at which the shot was taken, makes for a very interesting photo. As mentioned, the feathers and face are a bit soft. 1/200 is a bit slow for the focal length you used, especially if hand holding the camera at that focal length. Increasing the shutter speed and f stop might have helped. Increasing ISO to accommodate the change in settings wouldn't have been a problem using Topaz to reduce grain. Regardless, enjoyable image to look at. Feb 18th
21 Feb 25 Comment I really like the pose of the bird in this shot, and carrying nesting material in flight is a bonus. I also like how the morning light is reflected off the branch. Great capture. The bokeh in the water and shoreline as your background is nice. The colors are pleasing. As mentioned above, a faster shutter speed might have sharpened the image somewhat. Feb 18th
21 Feb 25 Comment What a whimsical capture! This shot makes me smile. I agree with Leslie and Tom's comments. I like the detail in the feathers and the bird looks sharp to me, maybe a bit too soft. A little contrast adjustment of the bird itself might make a difference. I really like the color of the background, branches are a bit distracting to me, using the Lens Blur function in Lightroom might make a difference as wells. This is a fun photo to look at. Feb 15th
21 Feb 25 Comment Beautiful side profile of this junco perched on wood against a very nice background with great bokeh. Colors are great and the detail in the feathers are perfect. I like the crop and the catch light in the eye is a great touch. This is a great image and I have no recommendations for improvement. I am curious what lens and focal length was used, or what the original image before processing looked like. Very nice Leslie. Feb 7th
