Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
9 Jan 25 Comment Thank you Tom. Jan 19th
9 Jan 25 Comment Sabine, my late comments this month on group images are an oversight on my part, so thank you for your kind reminder to the group. I'm not successful with creations of still life images because I'm simply not that creative and I lack adequate knowledge using alternative light sources as you successfully do. So, your still life photos, that also include a description of how you create your photos, are inspirational to me and at some point, I will try my hand at this genre once again. My thoughts when viewing your image for the first time are that the colors are appealing, and the shapes are interesting. When I further study the image, I like the curvature flow of the stem from the bottom of the vase connecting to each of the round shapes, which all appear to face upward. The camera movement creates somewhat of a mystery which makes this image more interesting to me. The more I study this image, the more beauty I see in it. A very nice photo. Jan 19th
9 Jan 25 Reply I always thought of my photos as being one dimensional, either landscapes, macro or nature. Your comment suggesting both categories will now open my eyes to consider additional options for the same image. Thank you for that Yvonne. Jan 17th

9 Jan 25 Comment Yvonne, I like your landscape image. The multiple horizontal stripes of grassland, the trees and the various colors you processed from your original image project a calmness that I like. The grouping of vertical trees of the same size and shape I think are the best part of this image.
The horizon line seems just a tad bit off and the sky seems a bit too wide. But I think that Sabine's adjustments are done well and viewing the image from left to right into your tree groupings makes this image even more appealing.
This is a very nice landscape.

9 Jan 25 Comment Randy, I commend your commitment to use a fixed focal length lens on your walks, something I know I need to do more of myself, but often just too lazy to do so. Your photo is exposed very well and sharp across the image. Your photo with various shapes, color and contrast between light and dark make this a very interesting composition. What I like most about your image is how my eye is immediately drawn to the leading lines of the wall and pillars, taking me to a curious place at the back of the photo which I think includes an entrance, an exit and an overhead utility door. Of the alternatives offered by group members, I think your photo tells the most interesting story. Nicely done. Jan 16th
9 Jan 25 Comment Thank you Sylvia. After some time trying to get sharper images I gave in and started using higher ISO settings which always results in grainer images. But I use Topaz Denoise (reduces grain) and Sharpen, both of which I used in this image. I'm sure there are other similar products but at this point in time, very pleased with Topaz. Now I never hesitate to use a higher ISO with the post processing software now available to address these issues, even as heigh as 3500 ISO with birds in flight. Jan 13th

9 Jan 25 Comment Sylvia, I really like your photo. The simplicity, beauty and softness of this composition are very appealing to me.
The single use of the blossom, stem, glass container, and color are done well. I am curious about what is supporting the stem so straight and did you use a filter to create the yellow color? .
I was never proficient in the use of artificial lighting, so sorry to say no recommendations from me in that regard. Would creating more distance between the background and subject make any difference regarding some of your shadow lighting concerns? The color seems uneven across the entire background and one spot on the middle left side of the blossom is a little soft and seems to lack some detail, maybe the result of your lighting set-up. Overall, I think you met your challenge very well, really a nice mage.

21 Jan 25 Comment Nice action photo with great color. Eye is really sharp. nice photo. Jan 21st
21 Jan 25 Comment Ron, beautiful birds I've not seen before. The reflected colors in the water and color of the two ducks are striking. I like the position of both birds and that they look in the same direction. The crop is good. I think the sharpness of both birds is a bit soft and a another suggestion is to individually mask both birds and play with different adjustments, i.e. sharpen, texture, clarity, dehaze, exposure, etc. Maybe do the same with a separate mask on each eye. Tweaking adjustments of each bird may sharpen and create some separation from the birds and competing colors.
I did a little research to learn they can be seen in our area. I'll need to find out where they can be seen near me and look for them in the spring.

21 Jan 25 Comment Don, we have blue-Jays where I live and never knew a scrub-Jay bird existed before seeing your image. I did a little research and was surprised to learn of the similarities between the two birds.
This is a very nice shot. Very sharp image of the entire bird with great detail in the feathers against a nice blue sky. Great catch-light in the eye. I like the pose of the bird which goes well with the branch. Very nice photo.

21 Jan 25 Comment Michael, this is a nice shot of a loon with its reflection on the water. The green color in the water from the tree reflections adds interest to the image as well. The eye is tack sharp with great catch-light and the pose of the bird's head is nice, seems to be looking right at you. I am impressed with the quality of the image when using a 1.4 x multiplier on your 70-200 mm lens. I'm curious to know if you hand-held your camera or was a tripod used? Jan 16th

21 Jan 25 Reply Thank you Ron. Yes, its amazing to me to learn the life span of many of these birds given the daily obstacles they face. Jan 13th

21 Jan 25 Comment Leslie, my interest in bird photography has only been a few years capturing photos of about 50 different species, but never lucky enough to even see and owl much less photographing one. I like the posture of the bird and looking directly at you is a great. I like the composition of the owl on its tree branch, both in sharp focus with clear details in the feathers and the bark of the tree. Kudos to your artistic creation. It is interesting and done very well per your description of the process. Seeing the original processed photo before the composition would be interesting as well. Jan 9th
21 Jan 25 Comment Tom, I had to research this bird having never seen one. I like the various colors of orange, yellow, shades of browns and gray and that each bird is in focus. I like the eye contact and intimacy depicted in this scene between the mother and chicks. Both crops work for me, but your original crop adds more interest to the story which I prefer. This is a very nice nature shot. Jan 9th

42 Jan 25 Comment Charles, this is a fantastic, very creative composition of three different and complementary colors, shapes and perfect lighting. The red border is a very nice touch. Very impressive photo, one I enjoyed spending time exploring all the details. I have steered away from still life's for lack of lighting knowledge and creativity, so your back story is encouraging to me and much appreciated. Perfect image!
