Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
9 Jun 25 Reply Randy, It was a compliment to you that you were able to focus on this great scene without family! Jun 20th
9 Jun 25 Comment Linda, Your poetic style of expression really translates what you as the viewer sees and feels. It's interesting to know that without knowing the image's subject it still evoked emotions. Thank you for your comments. Jun 20th
9 Jun 25 Reply Randy, Your "two cents" is much appreciated! I'm going to start with the original and crop a little more.

As far as restoring the church, I spoke to a deacon of a church across the street who mentioned St. Mary's was purchased a few years ago with no improvements to date. And the news reported a non profit purchased it for youth community programs. However, church has landmark status which protects the integrity of the building.

9 Jun 25 Comment Funny...now that I know it's a wood barrier my eyes adjust to it. Thanks for your painterly definition. Know that your images trigger emotions. Jun 15th
9 Jun 25 Comment The original may be better. It also balances out the space. I thought the white line on the floor was distracting. Your perception of "the warmth of humanity against the cold and desolated church" adds additional meaning to the image. It was a pretty interesting experience. The church was shut up tight the next day. Thank you for your insightful comments. Jun 14th
9 Jun 25 Reply Sylvia, I like your version. Lighting tells the story. I'll try denois to see what I come up with. Thank you for your comments. Jun 14th
9 Jun 25 Reply Douglas, It was difficult with the lighting. But that helps create the feel of the abandoned building. Thank you for your comments. Jun 14th
9 Jun 25 Reply Hi Ted, You're exactly right. I was in a very scary looking balcony for a few quick shoots. I did get some shots of the confessionals with graffiti near them. Thanks for your comments. Jun 14th
9 Jun 25 Reply Jim, Thanks for your comments. In keeping with photojournalism guidelines my intent was to keep the integrity of the original scene. So I was trying not to lighten too much. The priest is talking to a reporter. Jun 14th
9 Jun 25 Comment Randy, Always the photographer! And no family in photo. Great play with light and angles. The exposure is perfect to highlight the many arches and lines. Wondering if it would look natural to darkened the floor light from the door on the right side. I experimented in photoshop with the clone and patch tool. Yours looked better. Great eye! Jun 14th
9 Jun 25 Comment Jim, I like the composition of your photo which highlights the grass as well as the lighthouse. By looking at the blowing grass I can feel the wind. If the horizon is naturally off I'd leave it. BTW beautiful blue sky with clouds.

Coincidentally, PSA's Wide angle webinar by Ian Plant suggested making foregrounds larger in landscapes to add a different perspective. This reminds me of your technique in shooting the lighthouse. It may be available to view on PSA's website.

9 Jun 25 Comment Sylvia, Very inviting and mysterious image. Makes me want to climb the stairs. As the group mentioned the steps are the focal point. I'd suggest bringing out the steps' detail a little more. My first reaction was to straighten out the image but that would take away its integrity and charm. The crooked torii gate, signs and stairs make this an interesting image!

You're right, there must be a lot of shrines in Japan. Your last image included a shrine on the shore . Google search said this was the second oldest shrine in Goto. Thanks for sharing.

9 Jun 25 Comment Linda, I viewed your image before reading the description. I've been to the Eiffel Tower and was trying to figure out your image. Very creative and realistic! You got me on this one. Le Seine is now flowing under the Eiffel Tower. Jun 14th
9 Jun 25 Comment Douglas, What an endearing photo. The look on their faces add a warm feeling to the image. Your position achieved your goal of showing the large proportion of this dress to the small women. The garden and paved walkway are a nice background.

You did a great job in capturing an endearing moment. I've stumbled upon a few quinceañeras and you have to act fast. Usually there are a lot of people so you get what you get. Great job.

9 Jun 25 Comment Sabine, Beautiful photo. Looks like ribbons of silk. The muted colors against the orange horizon are very uplifting. Bringing out the orange horizon and lightening up the sand frame the image nicely and move your eye throughout . My only suggestion would be to lighten the dark horizontal line near the foreground. If painterly is creating a fine art piece resembling a painting ...you succeeded. What's your definition?

From looking on the website the conference was packed with information. You were smart to arrive the week prior before you were tired out. You and your hubby visit interesting spots.
