9 Feb 25 Reply Jim, Thank you very much for your detailed review. I have also been thinking about the intense green and will try to reduce it a little. Maybe I'll like it too.
Your cropping of the image actually brings the door more into focus. Thanks for the tip.

9 Feb 25 Reply As here, painterly photography is all about blurring. The challenge is to achieve the right result between total blur and the desired blur.
There is no secret, every camera is different. My husband's results are always different because he shoots with a full-frame camera. So, no secret, but practice, practice.

9 Feb 25 Comment Linda, How beautiful! Color in a rather dark season, at least in Germany. All the colors are bright and the circular movement makes me feel as a viewer in a vortex that leads to the center.
I would have liked to have had a monochrome area at the edge for my eyes to rest on. But that's just my opinion.
What camera settings did you use and was there any post-processing?
As I've discovered painterly photography for myself at the moment, I'm interested in it.

9 Feb 25 Comment Yvonne, You've taken a great sports photo!
You've managed to capture the emotion, energy and facial expressions of wanting to win.
Your point of view was good, the players are running towards you, I agree with Randy. The situation is perfect, everyone is on the move, the ball is clearly visible.
Unfortunately, I can't give you any tips for sports photography, I rarely do that as it's often a question of image rights in Germany.
I like the original, it also shows the surroundings. Of course, there's too much to see in the image, which is why you cropped it. I also tried my hand at it and made sure that the man on the left of the image was still there. For me, he's part of the story. The top edge is not necessary. Now your nephew is in the middle third, in the center, and his energy is convincing.
In the image processing, I removed the lamp above the head of the player on the left, increased the mid-tones and set a black and white point in the tone correction.
The image with the blurred background focuses even more on the players. The only difficult thing is to really blur or sharpen everything correctly. I have also tried it, but without using artificial intelligence, it is time-consuming.
Keep having fun photographing your sporty nephew.

9 Feb 25 Comment Randy, Great that you have this wildlife reserve near you. You've managed a good portrait, the Red-tailed Hawk has the sharpness where it needs to be, in my opinion.
I cropped the image to bring the great portrait even more into focus without restricting the natural surroundings.
I also darkened the barbed wire and the fence post a little so as not to distract the eye. Maybe you like my suggestion.

Unfortunately, I can't give you any tips on bird photography.
Sylvia is much more experienced.

9 Feb 25 Comment Jim, It was bitterly cold when you took your photo, as they say in Germany. We don't have sub-zero temperatures like that here. Respect that you left your car for a photo.
I like the composition, a house to the right and left, snow in the foreground and the white trees in the background.
I don't have any tips for you on converting to black and white. Personally, I find it very difficult to photograph white, in this case snow, and then edit it.
As Yvonne described, I would also lighten the house.
I could also imagine cropping the image at the top.
The panorama format is well suited to this in my opinion.

9 Feb 25 Comment Sylvia, Your owl portrait is really great.
I like the way the owl is looking at the photographer. It is sitting on the branch, in its pose ready to be portrayed.
The important sparkle in its eyes is there, the feathers are sharp and the background suggests that it is in its natural environment. The blue of the sky enlivens the image, but does not disturb it. Great shot!

9 Feb 25 Reply Randy, Thank you very much for your comments.
I'm glad you like the vivid colors.
I thought about whether it might be too colorful/bright.
