Wes, if you use Lightroom, try the new(ish) Denoise feature, it really does a great job without making the image look plasticky! |

Sephen,
What a history! One could write a novel based on that.
But to nit pick, maybe if you had moved a little to your left we would have seen the staircase leading upto the lady and may have resulted in a better composition.
The lady looks like she is posing, but that, for me, works with the "old world" look of the photo, because it would be the style of the time.
Regards

So what focal length were you using? |

Thanks Steven, if it grabs your eye, then I will take it that it works!
Shutter speed was 1/3200 sec, because the bear had been swimming, as it stepped onto the rocks, I knew it would shake off the water so I was already set at a high SS to catch the drops flying. Didn't think of using a slow shutter speed, maybe because I had it in my mind to freeze the droplets as the bear shook.
Maybe if I manage to go to Bear land again, I will try a slow shutter speed on such an event, it's intriguing to think what the result would be.

Lovely portrait, and yes, it is often very difficult to avoid distracting elements in a zoo. The half closed eyes give him a weary look, which is actually appealing to me! I wouldn't worry too much about the paws as the viewers eye is drawn to the face and the mane with it's nice texture.

Diana,
People in the background are nicely blurred and I note you have removed the flag which looked like it was sticking out of the main characters head, which is nicely done. Personally I would have stuck with the colour version for this one, as colour is a big part of the fun in events like this. |
