Tom, these are unused stairs in a protected heritage site (Fatehpur Sikri near Agra in India), nobody goes up these stairs, so no health and safety issues. I like Diana's crop, but not the sky replacement. I think in mono some stark elements like a bald sky are attractive. Cloning out the riangle at the top right is also a great suggestion. I'll get back to the original, redo it and repost it incrporating the sugestions (except sky replacement). Let us see how everybody likes its. Maybe a selenium tint might make it more attractive? |

Beutiful creation Stephen, I am not a studio or still life person (but want to learn), but agree with others that varying the lighting may make it more impactful. What did you use for lighting? |

Tom, sorry mate, doesn't work for me (but photography is subjective), there is nothing to draw the eye. The rays make some point of interest, but not enough for me. Different tastes I presume.

Wes, great pic, on my screen it looks lie the highlights can be taken down a wee bit, but I am not on a calibrated monitor, so do check before doing anything.
I am trying to enter salons and circuits these days to try and notch up my numbers, so have done a bit of research - basically I think anyhing which came out of the wet darkroom days is allowed with the addition of removing sensor spots in categories like nature, phototravel, photojournalism. In Open colour or open Monochrome anything is allowed. Please correct me if I am wrong.
About copyright of background patterns, I think we are getting into gray territory. For an event like this, I presume the organisers know it is going to be photographed? So you can presume they have no problems with copyright! |

Hi Wes,
I like the idea of removing the door on the right, will do it this evening and repost.
This kind of picture actually lends itself to haveing simple elements without distraction as you say.

REduced the noise and lightened the branch, just to see the effect. Personally I think that some noise in mono images adds to the character. Anyway you can compare and see if you like my effort at editing your image. |

Great image, just a sugestion worth trying, if tou move the orange channel up and the green channel down during conversion, it may make the truck pop out a bit. Worth trying. |
