Thanks for your feedback Dave. It's an interesting subject to photograph and like most iconic structures has many different takes on the best composition. I appreciate all the feedback and will continue to return many times each year to see what it offers. |

Thanks for your comments Larry. I probably have more photo's of this lighthouse than any other individual subject. It changes from season to season and is one of the more popular sites for visitors and photographers to Door County. The most popular is Cana Island. We have 7 different lighthouses on the peninsula, so there are lots of opportunities. |

Hi Sherry, there is no stairs to prevent people like me from climbing up and taking photos (and falling off). It's an active lighthouse, but they need to bring a ladder for a coast guard person to climb up and walk to the light. |

Hi Larry, I like the image, but it has colors that I don't see very well as I'm more than a bit deficient in reds and greens. I imported the image and converted to B&W to better suit my vision. I then cropped on both sides, but kept the "rock" more centered and cropped the bottom to bring all the birds into more prominence. I also added a small linear gradient to the top to darken it and keep my eye more in the center of the image. I'm not sure my thoughts are useful for your preferences, but thought I'd try adjusting for my eyes. |

Ian, the sky is the focal point for me and the pastel colors are great. If this were my image and my preferences, I would crop more of the water as it's not real interesting and pulls my eye down. I would then reduce shadows on the green trees in the background to add more interest as well as look into brightening the "dead" trees in the foreground, again for interest. Once my eye has seen the sky, I don't have anywhere else for my eye to explore. |

I think you've got a great image Dave. I do like the position you've taken to be looking up at the tree and also being focused on the center portion, I believe the Joshua tree can have lots of "arms" going off to the side and trying to capture all of the tree would make it much smaller in the image. From your position and the post work with shadows on the backlit tree, the features of the tree stand out and add interest. I think I see a few bright spots in the thorns that might have been sky that was brightened with the work on the tree. If you used a wide angle lens, you might have gained a greater starburst on the sun with an f/16 aperture, but that can be tricky. I tend to shoot straight ahead whether standing or kneeling, so I'm learning to try different angles from your work. |

Fabulous image Butch. My only thought would be adding a bit of foreground to give that more prominence. Your work on the clouds, rain, and lightning bolt are very well done and provide lots of drama for the image. |

Sherry, a beautiful image and memory of what was there. If this were my image, I would crop a bit on the right and reduce the water on the bottom with a crop or use a linear gradient to darken it and allow my eye to stay on the sky and trees. The water doesn't add much interest for me. However, by doing some cropping, again from the right and bottom, I think the "V" shape left in the trees would highlight the sky even more and really pull the eye in and keep it there for a bit to appreciate all of that sky. |

The pier is part of the Coast Guard station and access is restricted to a narrow path through the the CG grounds to the pier. There is another pier on the other side of the channel, but from there the light is obscured by the walkway. It's an interesting conundrum. I have taken photos standing on the left of the stanchions, but not as interesting to me. Thanks for your feedback. |

Thanks for your feedback Butch. I agree! I've taken many photos of this particular light and hadn't quite seen the problem that you have described it so well. |
