Ian, you've captured a great city/sea scape. The cruise ship is a dominant component in the image and in itself is an entire city. The scene shows the traffic and life of harbor and its activity. As I looked at the image and considered my own current work in B&W, I was wondering what the image may look like converted to B&W. There are certainly many features that could offer great contrast. Needless, I like the image and you've done a great job with it's capture and post processing. |

Ray, I like the B&W conversion and it provides more contrast and drama as compared to the original color versions. If I were to make a suggestion, I would slightly darken the foreground grasses and eliminate the stick as it's a distraction for my eye. It's a great image and your post processing work really make it pop. |

Butch, I love the colors of the sky and how you have used masking to darken the top but keep texture and contrast. The 3 Saguaros are very eye catching and provide enough light and detail for interest. I also like your treatment of the bottom to darken and reduce its impact but yet keeping it to balance the image. The 3 amigos are the star attractions. |

Sherry, that's a great image and the star effect is a real highlight and grabs my eye and then I look through the image at the mountain and it's textures. Your mentor did a great job helping with the camera settings and you've produced a lovely and lasting image. |

Thanks Ray, Yellowstone is a favorite place of mine and we try to get there once per year. We avoid summer and the crowds and prefer fall, winter, and spring with each of those seasons offering something different. |

Thanks Ian, I really liked this image when I took it, but kept it in color and it just didn't work. Converting to B&W and focusing on contrasts really helped. |

Thanks Sherry, your comments on the water being a leading line fit with my interpretation as well. I've been going over my older images to try some B&W treatments and have enjoyed the results. I'm hoping to use that for current images as I go forward and take photos that may not have great color, but tell a story that B&W can highlight. |

Thanks for you comments on the image Butch. I really appreciate your adjustments and they give me more ideas for future images. When I submitted this image, I had no idea that we would soon get 33 inches of snow and 40 mph winds to shut us down for 4 days. So, when I look at this image it also gives me the chills! |
