Thanks Ian, I tried several shutter speeds to find one I liked. I also like the water to show motion and some blur, but not without some contrast and texture. |

Thanks for your feedback Larry. I did a lot of walking up and down the river looking for a good composition. There was a lot to choose from, but I liked this particular spot as it had the tree's and roots for framing and foreground. |

Thanks Butch, I'm gaining a greater appreciation for B&W treatment of images. Your analysis is very helpful and provides support and encouragement to continue this exploration. |

Thanks Ray, I hadn't tried to crop the top and will give that a try. |

Thanks for your feedback Sherry. I've been working on more B&W, focusing on the opportunities for contrast and highlighting the subject which is more challenging for me with color images. |

Larry, I think I've stood in your exact spot in the past. I like your image and the mood it conveys. If I were to make a suggestion it would be to crop the sky down to the brighter cloud formation and also the foreground closer to the light area. For me, when I look at the image the subject is the mountains and clouds and some cropping might help make them more prominent. |

A very nice image Ian and I appreciate what an infrared image can produce. I read you comments about late afternoon and long shadows and wondered if turning the camera left an using the shadows as leading lines might do to the image. In your image the cut across and for me create a visual barrier by grabbing my attention with their dark contrast to the lighter overall image. |

An unusual view of the moving rocks Raymond and one that took attention to the details to see and capture. I agree that the image needs a bit more exposure to add some pop and highlight the key elements. I really like the composition and the work you put into post. |

Hi Dave, I agree that the foreground needs to be a bit more visible to add interest. I do like the pano treatment and seeing the city lights across the desert. One suggestion for a future visit might be to use more of a telephoto approach to minimize the dark foreground and make the city lights a larger feature. I've found when I get home and work on images that I begin to get more ideas for either improving or creating a different composition. |

A great image Butch. You've captured the colors and used the arch as the frame for the canyon below. I would have thought it necessary to stack multiple images to get the near foreground so sharp as well as the distant canyon appearing sharp as well. I was at the arch some years back and was part of the jungle of photographers, but the only one not using a phone. I like your composition and only using the arch as a frame, although with great colors. I was several steps back and my view of the canyon was not nearly as striking as yours. Congratulations on making some tough decisions to change your plans and then to capture this image. |

A great image Sherry and one which covers the foreground, the subject in middle ground and a beautiful sky. I appreciate the switch you made at the time to using manual settings. Once we do that, images can capture so much more of what we saw. I have not been to Monument Valley and look forward to putting that on my wish list of places to photograph. |
