Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
16 May 19 Comment Sorry I did not make myself clear. I was speaking only of the Chicago Chapter Nature Division rules, not PSA guidelines. Thanks for your feedback. May 29th
16 May 19 Reply I use most of my animal shots in Nature competitions and our division does not allow adding or cloning of elements in our images.
Vigvignettes are not permitted

16 May 19 Comment Fantastic image. Your composition is great. We in the US are tough to position the subject moving into the frame because that is how we read, from left to right. Many International Countries do not use this standard. As to your question, were you too far away to get a "clear" shot after cropping...I say no. Your image is clear and sharp. I believe that a longer lens would give more "detail" in the feathers, especially since they are white. Cropping down would allow us to see more of the reflection of the bird but the background you chose is perfect for this presentation. It looks like it was posing for a portrait.
I have never seen a photo of a bird in this position. Wonderfully presented.

16 May 19 Comment You found a beautiful place to photograph. Since you wanted to show the couple enjoying a picnic, I would like to see a tighter crop so we know their presence is intentional in your presentation, therefore, should see them more clearly. As shown I get the feeling that you wanted that shot of the mountain with this beautiful sky and could not take the time to wait for them to leave. I think there is too much of the yellow foreground which does not add to the beauty of the mountains. I also think that by cropping the clouds we would not see the effects of using a circular polarizer and the sky would be a consistent light blue. I believe you must have other terrific shots but submitted this image because you wanted feedback on this composition. May 13th
16 May 19 Comment Walter...I don't see careless errors. I think your image is beautiful. The action of the birds movement were captured at precisely the correct moment with ideal spacing between them. Timing in Nature is crucial and you got it right. I especially like that you desaturated the original and cropped so we don't see the distractions of the reflections shown in the water in the foreground. Lakes are not perfectly shaped in Nature and birds don't swim in a perfect straight line to the shore. Your composition and post processing are excellent. May 13th
16 May 19 Comment You have an excellent image because you had your camera handy, driving slow enough to capture whatever nature had to offer and recognized the potential of the subject, dispite the poor location for a great Nature image. Your image shows the natural movement of a animal in the wild. It is sharp, the composition is done well and the tonal range is realistic. Your post processing is excellent. I don't see any room improvement. May 13th
16 May 19 Comment As photographers we are drawn to vivid colors, especially in Nature.
I agree your submission lacked a strong focal point. I think that Joan's posting at 11:51:34 is a excellent suggestion. You have a focal point (the poppy in the lower left corner bending upward), the blue buds anchoring the dominant flower and the application of the rule of thirds to strengthen the composition. I applaud your determination to continue to photograph even though the conditions are challenging.

I like the frog. From a distance I am sure he looked real.
I find the brown color in the background distracting. I think cloning this area with the blurred green grass would be a better option. I am not a fan of the yellow boarder because I find it is competiting with the subject for my attention. The composition, sharpness and tonal range is very good.
