Yvonne, I like the idea of your composition. Blurring the background is a good move. It diminishes a potential distraction, but doesn't change the story. I agree that it would be good to have more space on the left side of the frame so the flower petal isn't up against the frame.
Overall, good job!

Bev, I like the image. The subject appears to have a slight halo around it which adds interest. The background is very good. I'd be tempted to crop down a little, but leave the base. Nice work!

Fred, This is very nice. I like what you did with the background. Normally, I find shadows somewhat distracting. I thought about how using a reflector to splash light onto the subject to compromise the sun angle would change the capture, but in your image the shadows work. Nice sharpness, color and texture. Pleasing image. Good work!!

Frank, great exposure and color. The subject is sharp. I like the background. The image is a bit busy because of the nature of the flower. I still find it interesting and pleasing to view!

Frank, sorry for the delayed response. I think what you did with the feedback image does emphasize the subject more strongly. I did focus my eye in post processing on the flower and not the stem. Consequently, I ignored the distracting element that was the dark portion of the stem. Your cropping works!
Thank you,

Charissa, you have great detail in this capture. The background is nice and doesn't detract. If anything you may be a little too close with some petals up against the edge of the frame. I like the lighting! Were you to crop in further, maybe something like I did...?? |

Tom, this does look better. I've had little success with high-key myself. |

Stewart, sorry for the tardy reply to your reply! Yes, threat of rain can work very well to the advantage of a photographer. I have a small umbrella that I frequently have on hand to protect my gear. It's too small to do much for me... |

Tom, thank you so much! I appreciate your referencing focal point and not trying to direct the eye to one place in the frame in a scenic image. |

Tom, excellent idea. I like the subject. I agree with the comments above. I think having some more detail on the front of the ship would be good. The detail in the sails are good. Nice looking ship! |

Stewart, very good! The vein pattern on the leaves and the details in the fruit are excellent. The lighting is very good. I'm imagining there was some cloud cover or at least no direct sun on the subject...?? Very good! |

Jamie, very nice scene. Very pretty sunset and the green of the golf course and the mountains in the mid frame add interest. Stewarts cropping works for me as well as your original. I can see either in a picture frame.
Very good!

Paul, terrific capture. The color is great and the "stopped action" is very appealing to the eye. I like the water droplets around the subject and coming off of the birdbath. Your corrected submission is nicely sharp. Very good! |

Bev,
Nice composition. The color and lighting is very good. For some reason I'd like the background a little brighter above and to the left of the critter. Gland you hang onto these images from a decade or so ago! |

Lloyd, thank you! I didn't mention in my description that I did boost the saturation (I almost always do) and the sky could be "overdone".. You are probably right about not getting myself into the scene somehow. It occurs to me that my silhouette would be a bit too big in the mid-frame. Just as well for it to be as is!! |

Jamie, thank you! I tried the denoise filter in Elements and did see some positive effect. I suspect Lighroom's filter is better. I appreciate the feedback! |
