Good portrait of parrot.
The original is a little bit unsharp. Maybe the reason is high ISO. You have improved it with processing, but it's difficult on the feathers. I advice you to make sharpening after all other processing.
The color of feathers around the eye seems a little bit magenta to me.

Kathleen,
I'm making nature photographs for long years. I like, that you must not make the image by your imagination. But it's much more difficult to find interesting scenes. Sorry, but I could hardly say, that this in interesting.
Beside limitations in processing, for nature you must obey other rules. One is, that there must not bee seen any "hand of man" like your dam.
Otherwise your image is sharp enough. The color of the water seems equal to me, the processed is just brighter. |

I also like the birds in flight. For your blurred wings, I would expect shutter speed 1/100 or 1/80, not 1/350.
I agree with Kathleen, that water in the background is too distractive. You can hardly see the sharp eye and body.
I advice you to burn the water reflexes for better recognising the bird.

Joan, I agree, that there are some distractions. I usually process most sport photos to be acceptable for Photojournalism exhibitions, where removing of objects is not allowed. Sometimes I make a second version for PID with objects removed. I'll do that.
Thank you for your compliments for Venice in Autumn! Maybe after some months I'll prepare an article about motocross. |

Compact cameras have much more depth of field (DOF) then SRLs due to smaller sensor. So F3,2 on a compact can be similar to F32 on a SRL. Compacts have maximum aperture F8 or F11, depending on the size of sensor. |

Joan,
good crop to get nice portrait. I also like it's eyes and face expression.
You had some troubles with camera setup. 1/160 at 172mm is just on the border for sharp image. Beside that the monkey is moving and it seems, that it's hair is moving in the wind. So the original is a little bit blurred. And it's too bright. I think, that 1/320 would be quite good shutter for this image.
Your processing is really good.

Dear Bud,
interesting bear in interesting pose!
At the time of capturing, there were more then one fault. -3eV means too dark picture. You have compensated it with ISO 6400, which means more noise. And the last one is F11. If you want the bear to outstand from the background more, you need more opened aperture. I would use 5,6 or 6,3. In that case you need lower ISO and you can even increase shutter speed for sharper image.
And then you have tried to correct the errors with processing. More processing with enlarging the pixels and brightening can even mean lower quality of the image. That's your case.
Portrait crop OK. It should be a bit wider to get more space above the bear's head.
If the bear is backlit, I would not brighten it's body too much. I like the bright fur on the edge and darker body.
If you look at the original and processed photo after all of your processing, you see, that original is more sharp and has more contrast. Try the image once more with less processing.

Interesting silhouette. Good processing. A little bit tight crop.
I agree with Walter about using art of other authors. |
