Thanks Peter - I played with lighter shadows but decided this level of darkness made for the mood I decided I wanted. Thanks for the suggestion though - its good to have other opinions to consider. Ray |

Thanks Ian - fortunately, the location of the Light station on Mt Desert Island allows for taking sunset photos. If one had access to a boat, it would also be possible to take sunrise photos as well, depending on the time of year. But yes, we mostly get sunrise photos over the Atlantic and sunset photos from the barrier islands off the NC coast. |

Gary - I agree completely. The location of the lighthouse on the left third, the balance and dtonality between the sky and water, the 2 rocky areas jutting out of the water all make fpr a great photo. Ray |

Peter - I am full of envy - I was in the exact same location several years earlier on a guided photo group from the National Parks at Night photo outing group - spent 3 nights, completely clouded in and those leading rock lines were completely covered with sand. Still a wonderful location and you did great capturing it. Note that the rock formation on the far left looks like a sitting ape. Ray |

Butch - A lovely scene and and even more wonderful place to have lived. The number of great images you must have of the surrounding area must be huge so thanks for sharing this one. I like the way the grass in the foreground leads up to the horses, to the hills, to the snow capped mts - should be in a calendar or on your wall. One questions - the dark mt to the far left looks like it has a bluish tint and no detail; in the original was this just too dark to pull out detail? Ray |

Sherry - as I have never seen this location, it is difficult to comment on whether the colors are to be expected, but for me they do look natural I have been thinking about Butch's comment regarding the walkway. I agree that adding it and a person adds to the story but I would be bothered by where it is located so close to the top edge and I feel the orange supports would draw too much attention. Also, it seems to me that none of the 4 people are in a really good position to add to the story. Finally, like you, given our newer technology, I have started going back to older photos that I thought were pretty much a failure but I kept anyway - and its amazing what results can be obtained. Thanks Butch - thanks for your comments - how not to over process an image can be a difficult decision depending on the monitor used, so I wont say this image is not. The white bright specs on the rocks are barnacles - do you find them distracting as I can reduce their brightness? Ray |
