75 Mar 25 Reply Thanks Murphy - that was what I was hoping to achieve. At least i did not need to add a white frame with this one. Ray Mar 16th
75 Mar 25 Comment Mo, Mo, Mo - you keep on showing us how to make art out of a photo - enjoyed the image a lot - my only picky picky comment is that I think there is not enough room at the top (it looks like the tip of a leaf was cut off) - so may be add space in PS or just delete that leaf. Same for the leaf at 10 o'clock although in this case the edge of the image cuts the end off. It kinda leads my eye out of the image. Ray Mar 13th
75 Mar 25 Comment Judy - thanks for joining us again as I have missed seeing your photos. A lovely sunflower with water droplets and a good attempt to present why sunflowers are a great photo subject. However, a few things to be aware of in the future - water droplets can be a problem when in sunlight (assuming this was taken out doors or in strong light) as you can get strong reflections that are just white dots as in the upper left corner. Also, while some of the back petals are in focus, the edges of a number of petals closer to the front are soft - these are mostly toward the bottom of the image so am not sure what your f-stop was. Finally, it appears that you wanted to brighten up the center so you used a circular mask (maybe)around that area but the edge of that mask shows especially on the right side - within the mask, the petals are brighter compared to outside the mask. If you did use such a mas, you likely needed to have used a larger feather with it so that the intensity change is gradual rather than abrupt. I appreciate that you are willing to stay with this as truly it is how we learn. Ray Mar 13th
75 Mar 25 Comment Alison, the colors are gorgeous, the petal pattern outstanding. Great image of a rose. I agree about getting rid of the petals out of focus. I use the 105mm lens for all my flower photography - its a great lens but agree that using a tripod helps when the flower or the plant has a lot of depth. Did the iso need to be 1000 given you used a shutter speed of 1/1250? Given the camera you used, could you have used a different combination, including a higher f-stop?. In some situations, I have often used several different combinations of shutter speed vs f-stop, letting the iso go where it needs to go, and then check out which combination worked best in post. Also, your camera offers focus stacking, which does require a tripod but provides a way to get the entire flower/object in focus after merging the multiple images in for example Helicon Focus. If you haven't used this method, I can provide more details. Ray Mar 13th
75 Mar 25 Reply Yes, I would leave the in focus leaf as it add color and texture - what a great trip you must have had! Ray Mar 13th
75 Mar 25 Comment Murphy, wonderful image - the colors really pop and I like the slant. For me, I think a little more space on the left and right would be useful. Also, consider deleting the out of focus green leaves at the bottom - just consider it. Ray Mar 12th
75 Mar 25 Comment Vincent - I agree that darkening the background makes the difference. It's wonderful when you can find something like this in your garden. Nice photo. Mar 12th
