Judy, I have looked at this image several times and I am just not sure what to say about it. I appreciate the concept but the composition just fails for me. The center of the flower is in focus but the ends of the petals seem soft, the background seems muddy and overly busy as in maybe darker might be better. One thought though would be to make the image all about the flower center and crop everything else out (leaving in the stames etc) because that is what i feel is the focus of attention. Ray |

Moe, another interesting ice photo and one I really like - the ice seems to flow in different directions. Another approach to try as we start having more flowers in bloom. Ray |

Gaetan, thanks for sharing this composite as it is not something I would have thought of. A question - since you were merging 13 photos anyway, why not use an f-stop with a larger depth of field as you could have de-sharpened the background in post if that was the intent? We don't see the original. Note the dark line at the middle on the left side but not the right - might be useful to get rid of that. YOur approach makes me want to try as well. Ray |

Murphy, its a lovely image for the color, the position of the flower (right â…“), the shallow depth of field works well especially since the subject is between 2 sets in the background. My only picky point is that the out of focus lupine at the edge on the left bothers me as for some reason my eyes keep drifting in that direction. very enjoyable. Ray |

Vincent - an enjoyable composition and I have run into the same problem with blown out whites on the top of leaves when trying to get light through the leaves - other than doing HDR, I never determined how to fix. What was your ISO as 1/2500 seems a faster shutter than I would expect needed? I think the black background goes well with the subject. |
